Question Noob question: Which options to buy/install?

I'm about to be a new 2010 Fit Sport M/T Red owner.

I'd like your advice about which options are worth buying to make the car a little sportier or functional. Also I think I know which ones are worth having the dealer install and which I can easily do myself but your opinions on this would be welcome. If there are options you think add a lot at a reasonable price feel free to suggest those too.

Here's what I'm thinking so far:

Let the dealer install:
Doorsill trim
Body side molding
Sport pedals
Ambient lighting (is this really worth it - it sounds cool but...)

I'll buy aftermarket and install myself:
All season floor mats
Cargo tray
Homelink
Leather shift knob
Sport grill

Thanks!
Dave

all that is doable at home. save yourself the
money and do it at home. you can also order all
that on the internet and save even more money.

The only one of those I might let the dealer install is the side molding, but I haven't looked at the instructions, or how much of a guide there is on the car to get them lined up. Sticking things on has never been my forte, and I just see it as a nightmare.

There is a detailed walk through on here about the ambient lighting install. Looks kinda fun, as it's all just taking things apart and drilling holes. I'm planning on doing it eventually, and maybe swapping out the LEDs for something a little brighter.

What about some door visors? Those seem functional and cool.

My dealer wanted $600 for the door mouldings, so I bought them online for $150. You can eyeball it as the dealer likely does, or use the (included) cardboard templates. They stick right on, and take 10 minutes to install. That equates to $450 for 10 minutes' work!

I have a base model (so it doesn't have an armrest), but I really like the oem center console. It's a bit pricey ($175) but it gives some extra storage and adds a bunch of comfort. I installed it myself with a minimum of cussing. I almost came to grief when a bolt I was trying to thread slipped and rolled under the back-seat carpet. I was just able to gain a grip on it and eeaassee it out. Other than that, it was pretty straight forward. Oh btw, the 3/4" (19mm) hole saw works fine (vs the 20mm hole the instructions call for). Enjjoy the new Fit

You list almost none of the things I considered important. In order of value for money:

1. Black plastic mesh between the front bumper and the A/C condenser. Fix in place with small black zip-ties. Less than $10, and saves you hundreds if a stone damages your A/C condenser. 1 hour.

2. 4. Replace the weak meep meep horn, either with an Accord horn (plug-in), or with an airhorn. Accord horn should cost less than $20, and requires less than an hour work. Do it at the same time as the mesh. Airhorns cost more and require more wiring.

3. Plastic film over the fog lights to protect against breakage. $10-20 or so, depending on source. Again, about an hour to prevent hundreds of dollars worth of potential damage.

4. OEM cargo mat. One spill shows you how much it is worth.

5. Weathertech liners. They catch everything, and can be removed easily for cleaning. Living in Massachusetts, you are going to need these during snow season.

6. OEM center arm rest. Added storage, adjustable, and built like a tank.

7. Window tinting to reduce the load the A/C has to deal with. Even in Massachusetts it gets hot in the summer, although not for as long as in Georgia.

Try the rear bumper protector. Goes on in about 5 minutes, and is well worth it to protect your bumper from cargo scratches. I bought mine for $46 bucks from College Hills honda.

I wish I had done that; I've been dealing with a broken foot for the past 3 months, and my wife has scratched the crap out of the rear bumper lifting a wheelchair or knee walker into the back of the Fit. Still, the bumper protector goes over the existing bumper, so it will also cover up any scratches.

Selden...i bought mine for that purpose. I scratched the bumper. Now it looks new. All the other things you listed, I either have or would get them. The center arm rest is good, but way too expensive. (to me) I haven't bought that yet because of the price.

Unhappy Arm Rest/Console

I got the OEM console and it is worth every penny. It truly is built like a tank. I found the best price (including shipping) at Vandergriff Honda, but I think they are not doing internet sales anymore.
