funny story kind of...?

Now I must warn you I am not a perfectionist by any means but when I have something new and it isn't what I have in my head as perfect it bugs me. Well on November 10th I picked up my NHB Fit. I only had to wait a month and half so I was pretty excited. I had ordered a set of the all weather floor mats also. I was going to order them from collegehills honda and install them myself since they were half the price my local dealer wanted for them installed. So I talked to my sales person before the car got here and told him I was going to install them myself and he said he would have them installed along with the truck tray for $199.99 which is about $30 higher than what I would have paid online so I said deal just make sure they are here when the car gets here. I knew it would take some time to install the hooks and I didn't really want to go cutting on the carpet of my new car. Anyway car gets here and no floormats so they order them and they come a week later I take the car in and when it comes back out I notice a small square cut into my carpet higher up than the hooks. It's hard to explain without pics and I'm to lazy to take pics right now. Anyway the usual accessory guy was out sick I guess so got some F***stick installing my floormats. I assume he randomly started cutting into my carpet without even looking at the template or instructions. Anyway I start to drive and look down at the hooks and notice something isn't right ( i had watched the install video on collegehills honda about 23 times so I knew what the end product looked like). SO I pulled off the road to look at it closely and sure enough I've got like four 2in square holes about a quarter of the way up my carpet where the seat mounts to luckly he only cut three sides so they do fold back down. So I go back show the service manager then go a see Josh the salesmen who I worked with. He was pissed that it happened and said they would make it right. Then the service manager comes in and says they are going to have to replace all the carpet in the entire car. It's going to take a day and half of labor. Sorry for the long post but here is my question.... Is it really worth it I've heard horror stories about this kind of thing before. Other than my squares everything else is perfect no creaking, rattling, nothing. I've had brand new toyotas that the consoles rattles, and seat sqeak after a 10000 miles. So I'm afraid to take it to them because they will take out everything, console, seats, parts of the dashboard. I think I could live with a few cuts for a set of HFP wheels, but I doubt they would go for that. What do you guys think?

Can't help you with your decision, that will have to hinge on how much you trust the service department of your dealer. I would do it if it happened to me, because I've had over 20 years experience with my dealer and I know they can do it right.

I can make a guess at why they cut the squares in the wrong place, though. My wife's 1996 Civic Coupe has hooks holding the floor mats in place, but they are attached to a "rail" that runs across the car beneath the seats, not to the floor itself. This may be the usual place for Honda floor mats that have hooks (although none of our other four Hondas have had hooks to hold the floor mats). The installer, even if he took a quick look at the installation instructions, probably assumed that the Fit had the hooks in the "usual" place. Sometimes people read instructions wrong because they think they already know what they say.

I'm kind of the same way. It would drive me nuts just knowing that the cuts were there and down the road they may start curling up. I would probably take it back and have them replace it and have my salesman supervise just to make sure it is done right. Honda is pretty good about taking care of its customers. My wife has a CR-V and with 2,000 miles left on the warranty, she noticed paint flaking off the step bar. Took it in and no questions asked. They ordered in new bars and replaced them. That is why they got my business back from Dodge.

Do it- if you don't it's going to bug you for as long as you drive the car. In myopinion you paid good money to have it done correctly-that appears to have not happened- why should you live with the result. Get it fixed and you will be happy you did.

I guess there's a good reason why I like to do things myself. If you do it yourself and it comes out bad, it just adds character to the car.

The saga continues

Well this has been a bit of a mess. So to update on my original post so they screwed up my carpet and I agree I wouldn't be happy until it was replaced. So a few weeks ago I take it in and they take two days to replace the carpet. It started snowing and they gave me this POS Ford Focus to drive while they had it. I go up to the service dept and ask if I can go ahead and pick it up. He says well we have to replace a few pieces of trim that got damaged during the install. the parts will be here next week, I didn't want my brand new care sitting out side in the ice and snow for a week plus the Ford was not handling the snow very well at all. So I pick it up immediately I see that they still not install the rear floormat hooks. So I point it out and he proceeds to say there aren't any, so finally he admits there are rear hooks and that they lost them. I start to look closely and there are deep scratches everywhere there is plastic, console, door trim, door seals, dash, even broke the pressure clips that hold the plastic trim that go over the seat bolts. So I go over everything with the guy. Everytime I would move the seat a piece of trim would pop off (Nice). Then I get home and install my child car seats and they actually broke and one of our care seats. I guess they didn't bother unlatching the anchors and just pulled on it extremely hard which broke the foam material. So needless to say they didn't make any money selling me my FIT or my floor mats. So far they have replaced or will replace:

Child care seat: $125
Center CONSOLE: ?
Carpet in the entire Car: ?
DOOR TRIM
FOUR DAYS LABOR
plasic trim almost everywhere

I will say the guy I've been working with has been very nice but I'm wondering If I should be taking my care there for major service.

Stories like these have kept me far away from the dealer. I hope you get reimbursed for all of this BS.

yep

Oh yeah I get new trim almost everywhere and I went out last weekend and purchased a top of the line car seat to replace the one they broke. It matches my interior perfectly which the other one was from my Jetta and didn't match at all. It's actually in the shop right now get new trim, console etc. put on. It really wouldn't have pissed me off but they didn't just come right out and say hey we screwed up. I had to call them out on everything, including the intial floormat screw up, which was so obvious. Like I said they just blew their profit on the car in the first month. Although they probably said the carpet was defective so Honda ate the cost of that.

reminds me of

this one time I took my car to get new wheels mounted at Sams and they stripped one of my studs and didn't tell me...that was a fun experience. I hope your car will be like new when you get it back.

Still working on it. Now I've got the main shop guy, the GM of parts, and GM of Service involved. Last time I took it they kept if for two days I was told that they were going to get everything fixed "and right this time". Got it back and they was told they missed a few things and they are on order, carpet trim pieces. When I got it home I noticed the glove box was scratched and I moved the passenger seat back and all the seat trim pops off I look under the passenger side dash and the carpet is flopping around. I went back the next morning a little pissy and a lot more short with them. They are nice and all but enough is enough. Just a bunch of little things but I told the guy it didn't come from the factory like this if Honda sent crap out the door like this they could be out of business in 5 years.
