MP3 Player Compatibility?
MP3 Player Compatibility?
I have a 2009 Honda Fit sport with a USB connection for an MP3 player in the glove compartment. My current MP3 player (a Sansa) is not compatible and I get an error message when I hook it up. However, the player is getting on in age and I'm considering buying a new one. Besides iPod, are there any other brands that are compatible with the system?
I suspected as much. I was hoping for something with a bit more functionality. But that is a great solution!
I have a 16gb flash drive that I use...I put the songs into alphabetical folders by artist and it works pretty well. I use the shuffle or random setting most of the time and rarely have to look for a song but when I do, it's not too hard to find due to the alphabetizing.
Yes, the AUX input is a godsend, but you get the functionality of the MP3 player tied to your radio controls if you use the USB jack.
using sansa player

Can you give the steps you take to hookup your sansa? Oh, also I tried the usb but I only got "connecting" on the sansa and no other sounds from the fit.
Thanks for your input...
I tried using a cable (audio jack cable) from sansa player to the aux jack hidden in front of the gear shifter (it's dark in there). I even used the voice command "play aux" it repeated "play aux" but nothing happens. I had the sansa player on with an fm station playing music, I get no sound from the fit...

Also be sure the volume was up on the player. The volume level for headphones is different from what the radio wants.
sansa player...
The AUX is two separate connections under one label, the USB connector in the glove box and the 2.5" input under the radio. I believe that the USB connector takes precedence over the 2.5" jack; that is, if the radio sees something on the USB plug, it will ignore the 2.5" jack.

So what are the steps...do you have the sansa on before you plug it in (which I did after not getting anything starting with the sansa off before connecting).
thank you,
Thank you for the response. I don't have anything in the usb port. I'm plugged in to the aux under the radio. I have selected "aux" on the radio controls (I have a navi). I did notice that after using the voice command "play aux" the screen display on the navi went from aux to "usb-no data".

As one of the other commenters noted, you will probably need to turn the volume up a bit higher than when you listen to the radio or a traditional CD. For instance, my CD volume is usually set on "8" or "9", my radio on "9" to "12" (depending on whether or not I have the windows open) and my "Aux" on "12" to "15."
I can't comment on voice commands because I don't have a navigation system in my Fit. If everything is factory, you may want to take it to the dealership to investigate further. Good luck.

If you have a boombox or portable radio with AUX in at home, why not plug in your Sansa audio out to your boombox (aux in) at home to confirm that your Sansa audio out is working OK. Then, use the portable radio or boombox audio out to temporary plug into your car's aux in to confirm that your FIT aux in is working OK. On rare occasions, the issue may not be compatibility between the Sansa and FIT aux in but one of the audio out or aux in circuits may be faulty... my 2 cents
Did you try to change the Sansa settings to connect as a plain old USB flash drive (rather than an mp3 player)? May be worth a try.
The Sansa is unfortunately not compatible with the USB jack in the glove compartment. That was why I started this thread initially.
sansa to fit aux
Another suggestion (if you have not tried it yet) is to test that the output from your Sansa is working OK and the AUX input of your vehicle is working OK by testing them independently.
