Hey you had a good idea going with the headlight restoration stuff. It worked magic for my brother's ten year old subaru that had almost yellow faded headlights. The look of your visor is almost the same. You'd probably have to buff it in by hand so be patient.

they'll be a year old next month. love the look of them, but not as much the fading. if i had gotten the OEM ones, they'd be under warranty, but i bought the mugen ones through someone else... not sure if i'd be able to do anything there.

Looks to me like some type of chemical reaction...I doubt it's oxidation since they're not metal or organic visors. Could be something was left on the visors and the sun baked it in?

plastic polish! It's the same stuff you use to restore convertible top plastic windows and headlights.

I've found that cut and polish (same stuff you use to restore old paint or buff out light scratches) takes out oxidization quite well. Fixed up quite a few old headlights and window visors this way.

As for the visors, I think they're fake. Yes, they have clips but so do many fakies sold in Asia. Here's one for example, even advertised as "OEM Mugen" but freely admit that they're fake and Mugen Style when queried. Please take some pictures of the side with the Mugen emblem, if any.

I bought my parents a set of OEM Honda ones off eBay from Curry Honda NY but there's heaps of Honda resellers that have them for similar prices.

Okay I have two options for you.

FAKE "Mugen Style" visors off ebay for $90 incl shipping.

REAL Mugen visors from Japan for $170 NOT including shipping.

Someone might come along and hook you up with a local US seller for real Mugens but don't expect them to be cheap unless they're fake. A note about fakies - you get what you pay for and while the OEM or real Mugens will last quite a while the fakies will discolor in the sun and get old and brittle much faster. Life expectancy 10 years for real ones and half that for fakies.

@Blue... it used to be that you could tell by the clips. replicas didn't come with clips, just the 3m. apparently the replicas are getting better and coming with clips.

update... i ended up doing a quick sand and spraying them with vht nightshade paint. i should've taken more time, but i didn't, so I'll have to do it again someday or just cough up the cash for another set.

Sorry to hear your having issues. I've had my Mugen visors on since 2007 and have had no issues. To take care of them I always microfiber them dry after washing the car. For car shows I always use Meguiars Plastix on them to get them looking good. My car is parked outside in the sun at work and all kinds of weather although the car is garaged at night. I've never had any problems with the visors in getting them detailed to look nice and shiney. Here is a picture taken from this past summer over at a show in Ohio.

Hope you can get the problem corrected.

Cat

Jnessel - If the price is too good to be true, it's probably fake. Location also a big factor.
For the easiest ordering of REAL Mugen visors I recommend RHD Japan over the Yahoo auction. The initial price is Y10,000 more but they'll ship to you easier and faster and probably cheaper too.

Cat - The Fit looks sharp! Yeah those eBay fakeys with clips have been around for about a year now. My friend got some of them and then had a hell of a time dealing with them afterwards. In the end he just let it slide as a learning experience because he was happy enough with the fakes but I reckon they'll fall apart soon enough as they're already starting to fade and crack.

One of you mentioned the headlight repair stuff. if im not mistaken its like what i use at our body shop to take off over spray on plastic visors like that when i detail. i use a very light buffing compound and a scotts blue shop towel. as long as you dont press to hard the plastic should polish out fine but if you press to hard your goin to leave scratches. either way it would look better then what you got id try some sort of light buff compound before wet sanding. if you did wet sand em and left a bunch of small scratches though buffing compound and a towel should do the trick to polish em back out. we buy ours just from our local parts shop so you should find it there.
