Transmission Woes......sort of

Well I drove to work the other day just fine, when I left at lunch my car seemed to jump a foot when I shifted into reverse. Same thing when I shifted into drive. The green D was blinking on the dash, the car skipped 2nd gear and paddle shifters did not work at all. Even though we have a independent repair shop we decided to take the car 85 miles to the dealer, because it had to be under warranty right? Alas no after all that it turns out to be a mouse chew in the wiring harness. The dealer wanted 600.00 to repair it so my husband brought it home and fixed it himself. It cost the 46.50 the dealer charged to diagnose the problem. Also the transmission fluid my husband bought to change that out. It runs as good as new and shifts great, but my automotive technician was a little embarrassed he did not catch this before he drove 170 miles round trip. It got really awful gas mileage as well. Normally on that trip it gets about 44 mpg, and it was at 30 mpg when he brought it home. We sure love our Fit.
