Yes I was hauling ass and yes I went over an unexpected large bump but I didn't notice it till I walked away from the car. Jacked it up and put the spring back in place. Man I need coil-overs!

Dayum! I didn't know that was possible to even do. Good thing you caught that before leaving the lot.

I know! I was like man how did my car get so low?!? OH SH!T! I'm glad it was the RH side cause the exhaust kept it from falling out!

yup, Texas Coyote mentioned it with his GD. He has Swift Springs, but used airbags for shocks. When he jacked up his car, the springs just fell out because the airbags allowed the suspension to move further than the stock shocks did.

I have Swift spring on stock shocks... I went over over a set of train tracks on a raised mound that practically sent me airborne (a little too fast)... springs are still there. I jacked up my car the other week to rotate the tires (while installing wheel locks)... lifted the back end completely off the ground, springs felt snug.

The Swift Springs I have, have a "dual coil" set up (I think they're a newer revision). If you look at pics of it... like this one from another member https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...tml#post931384 you'll see it. The tightly packed coils are for this very reason... if the shocks extend far enough to pass the main coils, the secondary will unwind to keep the springs seated. And the only way you're supposed to be able to pass BOTH, is during installation/removal...

Yeah Drop Zone springs are a cheap alternative for those on a budget. I haven't heard anything like this as of yet. I will definitely be doing coil-overs next year. This makes me want to do it prior to the Mugen kit. I hope They'll stay in that long! All I need is a couple good months at work... Come on $$$!

I hate compromise. And I think I'll leave it at that.

I had more typed up, but I think it sounded more like ranting. So, I erased it.

Hey thanks! I think I just came out with a real life experience... Another reason to go coil-overs soon. There were no comments on this so I went with a lower priced solution. I wanted to change as few parts as possible until I was out of warranty and still customize the look.

Now I have to drive more careful... or carry a jack with me...

Yeah, it took a while for me to realize why Swift changed their design to the "dual coil" springs. And it seems pretty much for this very reason.

Did you check to make sure the spring and the shocks are alright? I mean, when the spring fell over, there was basically nothing hold that corner of the car up, besides the shock and the spring on its side. The shock could've bottomed out... or if the spring (on its side) was big enough, taken quite a bit of weight on the coils. I don't know how these springs might react to being crushed on the wrong axis... can't imagine it would be good.

The spring was loose between the solid axle and the exhaust. The strut was on the bump stop. I think it happened when I pulled in the driveway. I could explain but it sounds worse than it was. Long story short, the dealer is off the freeway and I turned in fast and slowed down really fast. That combination while going up the driveway caused the spring to have just enough time and room to come out. So I drove less than 1/8 of a mile on the bump stop. I know I would have noticed it if it had happened sooner and the other side would have come out too instead of just one side.

This looks like a good reason for any spring manufacturer to change the design of their springs. I just don't see Drop Zone doing this.

The spring was never compressed on the side and the strut seems ok for now. We'll see if there is any leakage when I do the coil overs.

Time flies...

Well it's been 6 months and I haven't been able to do anything... Busy job and paying for vacation has done me in. Finally I am able to do more to my Fit! I have ordered APEXi N1 ExV coilovers, HKS Hipower exhaust, and bought bnib Mugen sides here from another "Fit Freak" member. All of these items should be in by Friday and on the car this weekend! I will post my progress as I get the parts and install them.

-Ray

BTW going to attempt the HD diy lip

Moar stuff

Ok Ok Ok... I got some stuff from Fedex today! HKS Hipower Exhaust and Mugen sides. I immediately put the HKS on and saved the Mugen sides for tomorrow.

Here are some pics!

-Ray

Loosen the two bolts on the exhaust flange.

Remove and reinstall the Rubber mounts.

Nice and easy install... Not as loud as I thought it'd be but definitely nice not Rice!

Exhaust looks good Ray! Can't wait to see the Mugen sides on. What are you up to next Thursday? Red meat & race fuel should be going on at MSR Houston from 3 PM to 6 PM.

Update!

This has been a very busy but productive weekend!

I got the Mugen Sides on just in time for the WTF Monthly meet! Good to see Vanct out there! Saturday I received my coilovers. I started installation LATE Sunday... Finished today after work.

Mugen Sides

The drivers side was test fitted prior to my purchase. I spent a LOT of time cleaning the old double stick off and then put new 3M double stick on. I followed along with College Hills Honda's Mugen Side install DIY video.
Episode #160 - 2nd Generation Honda Fit MUGEN Side Spoilers - YouTube

APEXi ExV

I started with the rears because of ease of install

Rear
Out with the old

In with the new

Front
Out with the old

In with the new

You must use everything from the original upper mount or you may break something.
