EPS problems on my 2010 Sport Fit
Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with their EPS (electronic power steering). I just took it in to the dealer because the light would come on while driving and then immediately turn off. The dealer told me that it gave a code of 11-02 (loss of voltage at ignition harness). Now they are telling me since I have aftermarket components, that I might not be under warranty. Wat I have is a 3 connector 12v adapter hard wired to the factory 12v harness. On that I have attached my Magellan 1700 and my XM Radio. I also have L.E.D. lights in the headlights connected directly to the battery with a fuse connector. And lastly, I have H.I.D.s installed. Would/Could any of this cause my power steering to malfunction? Please advise
Thanks
Victor

by hardwired, did you tap the original wiring? (splice tap, etc?) or did you use an adapter? I use an "Add-a fuse" for most everything as it is removable. Also, how are the HIDs wired? Do you have them wired directly to the battery with an Aux relay that goes to the headlight connectors. Do you have a Switch for the LEDs or do they come on with the car? If they come on with the car, the LEDs have to be tapped somewhere and not just directly to the battery.
If you tapped anything, you are going to have a harder time arguing that it isn't your equipment.
Ask them which wire tap caused the problem. I have a feeling that they are going to blame the HID installation as it will generate the single biggest draw of anything you have installed. Can you revert your HIDs back to the halogen bulbs? While most of that doesn't sound like it would cause any issues, without seeing it there's no way of really telling if that is the case or not.

Hi,
The L.E.D's have a switch that I turn off and on when I want and that switch has a fuse. The H.I.D's are connected to the battery also with a fuse. The "tap" and the 12v was spliced.

The 12V shouldn't be an issue. add up all of the amps that your devices take (Magellen, SAT radio) and as long as they are less than 20 amps, you can argue that you aren't drawing over the amperage that the 12v accessory adapter can take. if they say that it is due to the splice, ask them how as there isn't a short in the system and all of your accessories work just fine. Ask them for details.
Tapping/splicing something in the engine bay is probably more likely to be directly related than the 12v accessory.
Of note, Getting angry with the manager/svc dept. won't get you anywhere. Your best bet is to sit down with the service manager and walk him through each of the wiring items you completed and ask him how it could have caused this issue. (go in under the guise of wanting to educate yourself so you don't do it again.)

Update...
...the dealer had to remove entire power steering assembly and disconnect and re connect eps module. Once they did that, the EPS was back to normal. Best thing was that it was covered under warranty
