Honda announces recall
Fitchet, I think you need to follow along the lines of the late, great Soichiro when he said success breeds from 99% failure. Not in those exact words, but along the lines that the only way to succeed is from failing the majority of the time. Am I saying that Honda should produce failing parts and release them upon the masses just to fix them later, not at all, but this is seriously a minor thing in the big picture. Now you may say it is not minor if my engine can suddenly come to a halt and you are right in that regard, but for you to say your outlook on Honda as a whole has decreased because of this is quite petty in my opinion.
As has been pointed out several times even Honda doesn't really know that the engines in question are definitely going to fail, but they know a timeline of engines that used this LMA spring batch and it just makes sense to go ahead and replace on all engines that might be affected versus waiting till one's engine comes to a halt or one morning the person goes to crank the engine and it doesn't turn over.
You joined the site in April 2010, I would like to assume you purchased your vehicle new and joined after taking delivery or shortly beforehand and if so, you most likely are not even affected. So why get all worked up over it? If you receive a letter from Honda speaking of a recall, react then. No reason really to lose some respect for Honda for this recall, if anything one's respect should actually be increased as they could have just not done anything, but because they actually do believe in their product and still somewhat follow in Soichiro's footsteps they are doing the right thing.

I would just like to add that I will be continuing to redline the car every day, go WOT when I see small animals in the middle of the road I can run over, and keeping the bank heist driver gig until I can conveniently go in, give them my car for a while, and then get back to business as usual.
Until Honda proves otherwise to me, I expect the same stellar service and treatment I've gotten so far. Then again, my dealership is one of those nice big new ones. Basically the nicest, largest freaking dealership I've ever been to. The tech I spoke with asked me if I had plans on modifying the car, and I said "no" with which he replied "why not?" Turns out he has a high horsepower turbo civic - and this guy was sharp and professional. I'll trust 'em with my ride, personally.
I think trust in your dealership is a factor. In some areas, or small towns, a bunch of folks may be SOL for a good option.

i don't know much about how a car is put together, i enjoy looking at them and taking exceptional care of them. i have a 2010 fit sport it's got 5,900 miles or so on it. the car runs great i haven't had any problems as of yesterday. i read about this recall the other day and didn't start thinking much of this until last night. i am not going to drive the car at all until i get a letter in the mail sounds up surd which it is but i don't mess around with the engine.
i do have one simple question though, if the car does have a problem the next time i drive it what will happen to the engine. i had a 2003 pontiac vibe which was my first car and i learned a lot from that car. i hit a few deer. i parked close to traffic and my car got dinged and dented. im trying not to have any accidents and no dings on my car plus i always let the car warm up. now i doubt that has any reasoning why my car isn't giving me trouble or it could just mean the car isn't part of the recall.
so now let me know what you guys think about all this.

who is your dealer?? ...not honda dealer. weed dealer.

Dan
The lost motion springs, which are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use, may bend or break over time resulting in abnormal engine noise and potentially causing engine damage or stalling.
I would just go ahead and drive the hell out of it if you'd like too and not worry about it... If it is going to break it's going to be on a recalled part so it isn't going to cost you anything.... I've only had one recall failure and it was on a Harley Davidson transmission pulley and didn't find out about the problem until after I had removed the transmission and fixed it myself... It was time for a new belt anyway.

Bingo.
This paranoia and pissing/moaning non-sense needs to stop.
This is a job most of you could do yourself with a couple sockets, a helms manual, some confidence and most importantly:

Finally had to buy a new one because the old one was illegible

So I just found out today that I'm included in the recall. Good thing is I needed to go to my dealership anyway for the 30k "major" service which includes (as emailed to me by an associate at the dealership):
* OIL CHANGE/TIRE ROTATIO/BRAKE INSPECTION
* AIR/CABIN FILTER REPLACE
*COOLANT SERVICE
*TRANSMISSION SERV
*FUEL INDUCTION SERV (CLEANS ALL THE CARBON INSIDE THE ENGINE)
SERVICE COST $509.00 +TAX AND COMES WITH A LOANER VEHICLE
PS:
WITH THAT SERVICE PLUS THE RECALL I NEED THE CAR FOR ONE FULL DAY..
That was in his words, er, letter. I'm so glad I get to pay $530 for some basic shit that I can do!
No worries, I emailed him back telling him that I only need the transmission service (no idea what they'll do, so I guess I'll let them do it) and the fuel induction service (again, I don't know how to do this so I'll let them go at it).
What a day!

They have to tell you what they are doing, but in any event if they do it is their liability. So you might as well let them if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself.

Transmission service is probably just a flush and fill. You can do your fuel system cleaning with a bottle of injector cleaner. Coolant "service" is pretty obvious.
Your mostly getting nailed for book hours.
Stealerships...if more people were inclined on servicing their own cars, where would they be?? LOL
I do suggest to most of you guys to call your stealerships (I know some of you did already) to know if you're included in the recall. I just wanted to know what kind of services I needed for achieving my 30k + miles and lo and behold, my cars' included in the recall.

has anyone actually verified a recall via honda's owner link?

yes, i'm aware of that. i was just wondering if some of the people who have a confirmed recall have found it on that site. i asked because i have a "really old" 2009 fit......... mine was made sometime before sept 1, 2008... and my VIN isnt listed as a recall.... yet. tho i assume it's inevitable.
thanks.
What has been illuminated to me through this recall:
Hell of a lot of Honda POD people.
Vacant Stare, Monotone Voice:
We don't question the recall.
We don't criticize Owner Link's lack of actually being a tool to "link owners" to information.
We won't show any discomfort or displeasure at the fact that our vehicles have a significant defect.
Nothing labeled Honda can be questioned or criticized.
We will just smile vacantly and await our notice.
If anyone shows any signs of HUMAN LIFE and strays from these tenants we will point and scream...He's not one of US!

^^^dude.... it's a car.... cars are highly complex engineering wonders. the failure of any one of thousands of individual parts could cause a problem.
there is no evidence honda has been negligent, irresponsible, slow to react, or poorly thought-out in this entire episode. when such evidence surfaces, then have at it.
