it appears that my sept '10 assembled fit is outside the affected VIN range. i'm assuming it's safe to bet that i won't receive a recall letter from honda?

Is there somewhere where we can check our VIN to see if the car is affected by the recall? I'm not about to click through 21 pages of thread - too lazy.

The Honda website has not been updated. Read this and it will give you a clue as to whether your car is likely involved in the recall:

One more reason to wrench on your own car and stay away from the dealerships.

I walked the floor while waiting too, and the crz is a looker for sure. I was bombarded by salesman of course. Gotta say, they were busy. Lots of people signing, lots of people looking. It was a busy afternoon there. Americans love their cars. Btw- I was told since the gas prices are marching up, Fits are moving fast.

How are those of you who got the recall work done able to do so without the Honda letter not mailed yet?

If you take in a recall vehicle I don't think they would want the liability of letting you go.

This is just a guess however.

that's a good question. my dealer refuses to do anything until i get a recall letter.

i asked the guy who answered the phone in the service dept if he was aware of any case in which a lost-motion spring failed. he said, "no."

I guess it depends on the dealer. Like I said, my dealers service advisor said they've done a number of inspections for the recall, but I think I was the first one who actually needed the fix done after inspection for it. Initially, I just called their service department to check and see if they were doing the recall fixes and they were. If they weren't, then I'd be waiting as well. They seemed routine about it, frankly. No mystery about a recall at all on their part. I have two dealers in my area and one is a smaller one, and the one where I bought my Fit is a much large one- a very busy dealership. Whether that matters, I don't know. But the service advisor was able to look up the recall info and determine that my VIN# was right, for starters. So it wasn't a shot in the dark- the info is available on their end now. Why some are doing it and some aren't, before an official letter, I don't know. I would recommend calling and finding out, regardless of a letter in hand or not- and continuing to do so along the way just to check in. IF you know your VIN# is within range.

My Dealership told me that they were supposed to accept only those that have the letter but he made my appointment after checking my vin anyway. I wanted something this week but he told me that they were booked with recalls and the soonest I could get was Monday. Go figure.. I guess it really matters who you are dealing with.

The bulletin describing the recall is specific about the head assembly date which may pre-date the car by some time. My car was build before the cutoff so mine has to be affected. Read away, all.

Honda dealerships are packed with "Campain" cars (at least my dealership). I've inspected MANY recall vehicles but not even ONE found bad (Maryland Columbia).
One other technician here did found one effected FIT today and had to put in 4 lost springs. I just checked my gf's VIN and hers also needs to be looked at. I hope her Fit only needs inspection.

Now I know what a rocker holder is and what it's used for. Thanks for a good link, + reps for you!

yep, must have some idle mechanics at the moment. Makes sense though to spread out the work, before everyone calls the day they get the mailer.
