i was notified by phone that my car is recalled.
a pre-recorded message from somewhere.... not my local dealer.
they told me to make an appointment "immediately upon receiving notice in the mail, which should be within 5 days."

still nothing on the honda owner link... not that it matters.

Advice: Check to make sure the dealer you are going to take it to has the part already!

Update: they kept my carovernight cuz they needed to order parts and the car was disassebled.

Today they still haven't received the part so I'm out of commision today!!!!
I'm about to call customer care

That's really stupid of them, for a number of reasons. Among others, how much dirt and dust can blow in if the engine stays apart for a day?

I know. I just changed my oil (synthetic) and I am concerned that it will either get contaminated or if they need to top it off (not sure if the job results in a significant loss of oil) they'll just use regular oil.

It sucks when you have genuine questions and they're good but seem to annoy these service advisors, who prefer their clients ignorant about the cars they drive.

Better let them know you have synthetic. Wouldn't advice mixing synthetic with regular oil.

They'll keep in protected. There's no reason the oil needs draining and your fill will be fine, as will the Fit.

You're right, it is hard to communicate concerns some times. One good reason to have a positive relation with the guys working on your ride.

BTW no issue mixing syn and dino.

I remember why I dislike and distrust service at dealers. I only trust myself to work on cars.

I just got back from getting the recall repair completed

Strike 1 - Took the dealer almost 8 hours to complete the job.
Strike 2 - The did not replace my cowl correctly, forgot 2 fasteners and missed up one of the clips that hold it in the front.

I will fix the cowl myself and get the fasteners from the dealer tomorrow. GRRRR!!! The dealership is 35mins away.

Goodluck the rest of you.

Agree with KC 100%. I have a great relationship with the service department at our dealer. they made one little mistake (wiper arm off one notch) so I called them today and asked if it was a 5 minute job or a 20 minute job to adjust (I knew it was 5 min but posed it as a question). The Service rep said it was because of the cowl removal and not reinstalled at the right "stop" and would be about 5 minutes so if I was in the area, just stop in and they'd have someone adjust it right when I stopped in. For the recall, our car was there for 4 hours (because my wife works at the hospital for 4 hours) It was waiting when she got there and probably had to cool down for 20 minutes prior to work. So I guess it was under 3 hours overall and ours was the 1st one they had done. I think we are heading to the mall (next door to them) tomorrow morning so I'll be stopping in then.

I have a good relationship with Metro Honda also:bought the car there, when the blower fan resistor wnet out they repaired it even though I was out of warranty. When the hatch lock switch broke, they repaired it as soon as they got the part....

I always get the same advisor and while he is cool the situation sucks. So I asked him why wouldnt the parts department get a small supply of these parts to prepare for the eventuality that one of the fits they sold or service will need the part.

His reply is they dont want to keep parts sitting on the shelf ...so they order as they need it. That being the case ALL FIT OWNERS IN HUDSON COUNTY NJ be aware that Metro honda will probably give you good service, but will take forever...in my case 2 days and counting (they are saying the parts are being cross shipped). Hopefully they finish tomorrow.

Had 2 messages on the answering machine today. One was from Honda Corporate advising us of the recall, 2nd message was from AutoFair Honda in Manchester NH where we bought both of our Fits asking us to call and make an appointment to perform the recall work. Only my wifes Blackberry Fit is affected by this , my VIN is beyond the ones being recalled. In the mail today was the official letter from Honda as well.

My wife called and made an appointment for later this month. They are also providing her with a rental while the work is being done....not something she requested, they offered it up! Thought that was a nice touch.

Hopefully they'll have done quite a few of them before the 23rd so when it comes time to drop hers off it should go smooth. So far AutoFair has nothing but high marks from us in Sales and Service

had the recall done this morning. dropped the car off at 8am and got a call back at 1 saying it was done. car feels the same which is good. they replaced 4 springs and adjusted the valves. will drive the car more tomorrow for further evaluation. hope this issue is resolved with the new springs.

Heads up for anyone in Atlanta - for the recall, most dealers and doing this in a two step approach. They are requiring me to bring the car in for visual inspection to see if the spring(s) needs to be replaced and then if so, they need to be ordered and only then need to make another appointment to have it replaced. Does this sound right?

I asked why the VIN would not be the determination on the build/parts, but they told me that this part only affected some Fits within the VIN range and needed visual to know if it needs to be done. What a nightmare for such a stellar build quality brand.

this makes no sense...the recall is about springs that are faulty in terms of metal composition...and that they might break...not already broken. Making a visual inspection does what? My understanding is that the recall is for a specific part replacement...not for a visual inspection. If this is true, then perhaps Honda is not sure of what all needs to be replaced. I thought this recall was for a "spring"...and thus one part. Is it for a set of springs under the valve cover..if they need to be replaced whats the point of a visual inspection unless they are looking for other failure issues.

Going back I do remember that a visual inspection to check manufacturing lot numbers was the first step.

correct. Space should be involved in the Recall. as others who bought their cars at the same time have had them replaced. (aug '09 for us and I had it done. - if the join date is any indicator of purchase, space should be included in this as well.).

for those saying this is a 2 step procedure, question the dealer HARD, then find another dealer. Tell them you have major concerns about them taking off the valve cover TWICE as they'll have to take of the Cowl TWICE, the Wipers TWICE, and many other things TWICE. They should have them in Stock before you take it in for a Recall. I'd contact Honda US about this and notify them of your concerns and specify the dealers that are doing this. A Quick call from Honda corp will likely rectify the situation. They are in PR Protection mode right now to avoid lots of bad PR and this does not help their situation.

If they have to do it in two steps, make sure they replace all plastic & metal Clips with new ones as they wear down over time (and after repeated removal)

Strikes me as not only a waste of my time but also of dealer time and space in the shop. How much could the parts cost to stock? Or can they somehow bill Honda for more hours if they do it in two steps?
