Honda announces recall
We have an appointment for Tuesday for our 09 Fit. So I called the dealer and asked if they had all the possible parts…they did not. I told him that I didn’t want the car taken apart unless they had everything required for the recall. He called me back a few hours and said that he would have the “kit” first thing in the morning, so that the car could be taken care of in one process. Glad I called the dealer. Why they would wait to order the repair kit just doesn’t make sense
But then again a lot of things don’t make sense…guess I’ve got just a attitude huh.

WOOHOO!!! I got my letter in the mail today....
oh wait...
Never mind.
Mine said completed and I wasn't sure if the springs were replaced except for the fact that my "invoice" states 4 Lost Motion springs... $ 0.00. This means they replaced them. If you don' have any LMS listed on the invoice, they probably didn't need to replace. You could call and ask I suppose.

oh wait...
Never mind.

its too late.. i already drove back to school... but anyways, all in all iam satisfied with it, they completely took off my cold air intake, i can tell by the way dust was rubbed off of it, and also by the couplers and mounting locations being slightly off... the screws are on pretty good, so i won't mess with it.
also a bit of oil is on the engine from where they opened it up, as long as everything works and is running iam fine with it.
i wish there was a way to know if they really did change out the springs in it.. or left it alone.. for 2 hours of my time.. it wasn't too bad.

Sure there is. Take off the valve cover and look at the stamp on the rocker valve assy and see if it falls within the recall range. If it doesn't then they either replaced it with a new one or your car didn't need the recall performed on it.
Earthquake-related problems?
Still waiting for our letter (though I see the recall listed for our '09 Fit VIN in our ownerlink account).
With the unfolding tragedies in Japan, I'm wondering if it will affect supplies of the parts needed to address the recall.

I FINALLY got the letter yesterday. I stopped by my dealer on the way home from the doctor. They said they could get the car in on Friday. I asked for a loaner car, and offered to leave the car overnight so it would be cooled off by morning. They agreed. The service writer then informed me that if my car needed the springs replaced that they would have to order the parts and I'd have to bring the car back again to have it fixed. I told them that it seemed impractical for them to have to take the motor apart twice, and said I'd just as soon wait until they actually had the parts in stock. They checked and found that they DID have repair kits in stock, so we should be all set.
My guess is that Honda wouldn't have made the recall public until there were adequate stocks of parts in the pipeline to do the work. That's probably why there was a delay in sending out the letters.

if my dealer tries to pull a 2-visit recall, i'll tell them i know my car needs the springs.... it was made in 2008.... well before they changed the spec.
Because it keeps getting buried..
Here is what the recall involves. Includes procedure, parts involved, parts replaced and tool kit required by the dealer, as well as all P/N's and T/N's:
Honda Fit Lost Motion Spring Recall
Ask about dropping the car off so it can cool down and make your lash adjustment more accurate.
Ask if the parts/tool kits are in stock.
Ask about a rental if you need to leave it for a day.
Then once you are satisfied with the above answers hand over your car.
Sounds like a lot of you are going about it exactly this way, which is precisely what all owners should consider doing.
Best of luck everyone.

Just got my car back from the dealer about 5ish tonight. The dealership did a nice job. Engine seems slightly quieter now but that's only when I popped the hood. It did take them about 4.5 hrs to complete the work fyi.11am-3:30pm. For anybody needing to do this in the Columbus, OH area Lindsey Honda is very professional and recommended.
Got the Fit repaired today. Apparently they ordered the spring kit so that they could complete the job in one single process. Everything under the hood looks the same…I took some photos prior to the work in order to ensure all the wiring and plumbing was put back in place. I don’t feel any performance difference. However, they scratched the plastic cowl that's located outside just under the wiper blade area, and they also managed to put a nice scrape on my front passenger wheel rim. I serviced the tires Monday evening and I know that fresh scrap was not there. Dealer agreed to order a new rim and cowl. What fun.

I just got my Fit back from the dealer after doing the recall... and it's going back tomorrow. I was hearing some pretty loud ticking noises at anything over idle. I took it back to the dealer, had a tech listen to it, and he agreed the valves needed to be readjusted.
*sigh*
EDIT: After another valve adjustment, everything's all good

That crap IS hard. Having removed my cowl 25-35 times I can do it in 4 minutes now, but the clips still get stuck all the time. I find it disgusting that the dealer would order a whole new cowl, super glue is an amazing thing. I have broken everysingle clip and never failed to super glue them back on. They've yet to break where they've been glued. It's not like you can even see the clips, I would just glue them and never tell the customer it happened, otherwise you would get self righteous customers demanding a new cowl. But then if I was a dealer I could probably figure out how to bill Honda for the cowl and labor so in that case I might in fact order a new one.

(sorry needed to post this somewhere...)
Honestly in a pinch I have done the same sh!t at least on my own cars a couple times.
I have recently superglued parts of the dash trim, head liner and a couple interior clips back together because I broke the clips and ran out of spray adhesive for the dash/headliner. Classy!Last time I was screwing with massaging the bumper cover to fit over the intercooler I just zip tied everything. I have to make some angle iron or re-bar brackets still, but I waited for when I upgrade.
So I have to do it all over again with the new bigger core that just arrived tonight!

i noticed that. a couple of days ago after the first report of broken clips, i examined the cowl on my car (for the first time) and my basic reaction was "wtf?"
It is easy to get to the plugs without removing anything but the coils...I was just looking at what all I am going to have to remove to do a valve adjustment.. With the KWSC I will have to remove the battery and I/C before the throttle body and manifold plenum can be removed.
Remove the cowl to change the plugs... that's disturbing. I was thinking the Fit engine was accessible. A friend did point out how far into the firewall the engine seemed pushed, but I never thought it would involve body part removal to get to the plugs. Thanks for the heads up on what looks like a 2hr job to change the plugs. Luckily I'm a ways off from that, but still.
I do have to brush up on my lacking super glue skills.
