Dead Battery Anyone?

Gurus, how long can I leave the Fit in storage without driving or starting up the engine before the battery will die? Will manually locking the car and disengaging the alarm extend this period? Thanks in advance.

It's better to disconnect the battery. Also check page 281 in the manual.

How long do you plan to store it? I would suggest you get a trickle charger if you are talking multiple months and you want to keep it connected. They are very common and relatively cheap.

If you're going away for an extended period of time, e.g. military depoyment or such, you have a few things to consider:

a) Fuel stability - you should add some Sta-Bil to the fuel and keep a full tank. This will prevent the gas from going bad. Follow the instructions on the Sta-Bil bottle for dosage. Be sure to run the car with the Sta-Bil long enough to treat the entire fuel system, not just the tank.

b) Store the vehicle on jack stands/blocks. Parking a car in one spot for an extended period of time may cause flat spots or sidewall bulging on the tires.

c) Definitely install a battery tender/trickle-charger. If you don't have access to a plug where you park your car, remove the battery entirely and keep it indoors with the trickle-charger attached. Then, when you get back, unhook it - take it outside, install it, and drive off.

trickle charger is the way to go. Be sure to get a more modern smart one, like batteryminder or batterytender.

Don't forget an extension cord if an outlet isn't nearby.
