Diy cai

I have read several posts on DIY SRI and SRI with vent tubes from the fog light hole. I have not seen any DIY CAI. Is it a practicle/possible/sensible to do such a thing? I am considering utalizing 3 inch ID thin wall pvc tubing to place a large amsoil air filter in the slot for my fog light then screening off the fog light hole with gutter guard. I will spray all of the materials with black rubberized undercoating so it looks less jank. Both my fog lights have been victimized by road rubble and my bumper has a small crack so I feel like cannibalizing my bumper is an acceptable loss. PVC has a rated max temperature of 140 F but I have placed a piece inside my engine compartment and it has not melted or deformed. And I will not be running any boost. Does anyone have any advice or experience in doing such a build?
thanks

abs pipe

I have found that lowe's actually sells ABS Pipe. It is a little more expensive than pvc $20 vs $10 and only comes in 10 foot lengths but, it has much higher heat resistance and resolves that issue. Sure wish they sold 2 foot lengths.

final results

sorry its been so long seemed i have had this set up on my fit for a bit now averageing around 44 hwy and 39 city miles. Hard to tell my exact mpg change but it feels like an increase maybe placebo. Sound wise I hear really no difference until I hit high rpm. Around 4k+ rpm car turns from a fit into a wildcat.

here is the engine bay. I simply cut up the old intake box to and used the small 2 inch id pipe to cold the maf sensor. I wanted to use larger pipe for this but worried that might mess with the computer.

here is the car from the outside

I ended up using

this amsoil filter and pre filter
SEAPF21-EA
Product Name: Absolute Efficiency Pre-Filter*

EAAU3090-EA
Product Name: AMSOIL Universal Air Induction Filter: 1 FILTER

I went with 3 inch id tubing i had plenty of room for bigger tubing everywhere except for the last 90 degree bend to get into the fog light hole

overkill for sure but no one gave me much advise. So I did this.
If anyone has any other good ideas let me know
