There is no difference between a dealer trying to steal your money with a non optional add on. And some thug sticking a gun in your face and saying give me your money. Except maybe the thug has a heart and feels guilty afterward.

When a dealer tells you that you must buy their "dealer add on options", that's like you buying a Blu Ray player for $200, and the electronics store trying to force you to buy their $30 HDMI cable that you could buy elsewhere for $5.

You guys are hung up on this and looking at it the wrong way. The Dealer is selling you a Blu Ray player for $230 and including the HDMI cable with it. If you can buy HDMI for $5 and the Blu Ray for less than $225 elsewhere then do it. If the Blu Ray costs you $225 or more elsewhere and you need a cable anyway then what are you losing? Let them call it or itemize it however they want, bottom line is are you buying what you want and at the best price.

Dealer installed options are just that, already installed and now part of the vehicle package. If the price isn't right and dealer is not willing to remove option then go elsewhere.

The question is- did they quote a price including the add-on?

Or did the window sticker name a price and they revealed the add-on later?
(or did they agree on a price and the add-on got tacked on? Same thing- bait-and-switch)

Telemarketers are people too!! On the social scale with child molesters, car dealers and politicians.

The internet is a wonderful place where we can view beautiful young ladys and learn things. Now dealers really tick me off. If someone has stuck a gun in your face, you do not have many options, some do!

A dealer is a different thing you can learn to play the game, or go through life as a victim. Or go to a different mugger.

First considering the .90% financing and some strong negotiating you may be better off buying a new Fit! Also now is not the best time to be buying a new fit, fall should produce some much better deals.

All dealers will try to add things to jack up the price (steal your money)
You have to do your due diligence and decide what price you are willing to pay. Anything the dealer is trying to add, rust proofing, scotch guard, alien abduction proofing, dealer fees can be worked around.

How do I explaine this? When a dealer adds a must buy item (in Florida it is a dealer fee, up to $699) Under most state laws they must charge everyone the fee, no exceptions.

You need to research the value of the car, trucar.com is a good place. there are many posts here on what people have paid. NADA is not a good place! On trucar a 2011 Fit Sport great price is $16,777. If the dealer is saying you must pay the Alien abduction proofing fee for $500 then deduct it from the $16,777 to make the great price $16,277!

Don't let your pride cost you $$$$. If you have a wise old uncle, aunt, cousin ask for help.

Sorry about the long post, I hate to see people get ripped! Maybe I can hire myself out as agent for the buyer? I'll hire some telemarketers to call people and offer my services. JIm 0311

resolved

Hi all.

Thanks for your responses...they helped a lot. I stuck to my guns and emailed the salesperson's boss. He immediately "waived" the 300 dollar fee.

Appreciate the forum support. I wonder how many people they've hit with this fee in the past.

Cheers
Chris

Great you are off to a good start! Now you have to negotiate the price down. They like to talk about shortages, popular model, other buyers. They will ask a ridiculous price. Make a ridiculous offer and go home! They already know they don't have a easy customer. The longer you take to buy the car the better deal you should get.

Generally sales people are paid a commission. Most dealers also pay a bonus at 10,20,30 cars sold. If it is the last day of the sales period and the sale person has sold 29 cars he is going to work his/her butt off to get you sold! They are going to be hammering their sales manager to accept a lower price. Unfortunately we do not know when the sales bonus period ends, that is why time is your friend!!

Frikkin' parasites taking advantage of the fact that the Fit is in high demand.....essentially they have just told you that somebody else will buy it with the extra crap if you don't......but there are some used ones around. Personally I'd look for an individual seller rather than a dealer. Dealers have to pay all their people, building costs, etc and it must come from the customers, whether it's new car or used.

I do not know about your area but here in SW FL used Fits for sale by owner are very rare.

I found two, one had a rebuilt title and I bought a new one for less than they wanted for the other!!
