Happy to be a New Fit Owner

Less than a year ago I bought a 2010 Ford Focus just to have an inexpensive daily driver with a manual transmission. I suddenly realized that I never had a car that was fun to drive. I thought I did, but it turns out that a car with a quality suspension set up is much more fun to drive than a car with oodles of power that can't go around a corner. Who knew?

Two weeks ago some idiot kid pulled out in front of me and totaled it for me. I loved that car and was sad to see it go but, now knowing what a car needed to be fun to drive, I was excited to go shopping.

It came down to a 2012 Focus or a Fit. The Focus I test drove was very much like my 2010 as far as driving feel. I know it looks much better and even has a slightly better suspension set up. I left the Ford dealership thinking I would definitely be happy with the Focus but knowing I had to give the Fit a fair shot.

During the test drive I saw the perfect opportunity to test the Fit's suspension when I came to a round-about. I really put my foot in it as I jerked the wheel left -- the poor salesman was probably soiling himself -- in an attempt to discover how much the body would roll in that situation. As far as I could tell it stayed perfectly flat. I left the round-about with a smile on my face, knowing that the Fit was going to be my next car.

Also, I was super-impressed with the manual transmission. The throws are crisp and direct and it's much more fun to manipulate than the Ford's. I love my Fit.

Welcome aboard AutoFit and nice write-up. Having something fun to drive is definitely more rewarding than just having something to drive. Makes you look forward to driving... Enjoy your new ride!

I've been a Ford guy for many years. I would be in a Ford now but the dealer tried to steal $3000 of my money and did mange to mug me for $200.

So now I am a happy Fit owner, fun to drive, economical, I refer to it as a skate board on steroids!

Indeed - tons of stuff, and it turns on a dime.

Thanks! When I was car shopping I knew that if I went with the Fit I'd have to get the windows tinted pronto since it's a veritable greenhouse. I figure that color with 35% tint wrapped all the way around it is going to look pretty freakin' cool

Go-kart, skateboard, roller skate, all are fair assessments as far as I can tell. I'm having a blast with it.

Congrats on your new Fit. I've never heard of anyone refer to the Focus has having "oodles of power" though . But really, the Fit is an enjoyable drive, and does have a great manual gearbox feel.

You misunderstood. The Focus didn't have oodles of power, my previous vehicles did; oodles of power but crappy suspensions. The Focus was the first vehicle I had with a quality suspension set up.
