cooling system

The vehicle is new with ~1,800 miles on it.

The area of concern is the hose going from the neck of the
radiator just under the cap to the coolant reservoir tank.

The hose at the radiator end appears to have about a 1/4"
slit... as though it was done on purpose to facilitate installation.

It appears to have been that way since the beginning although
this is the first I notice it. Doesn't appear to be losing coolant
as there are no signs of that and there appears to still be sufficient
length of hose attached.

Anyone else notice this slit on their new Fits?

Obviously not an emergency but I'm thinking of taking it to the
dealer for a replacement under warranty.

Over flow is not pressurized engine draws and feeds to it. Everything look clean as new? Might pull in to your service guys for them to look at. Meet and greet. You get a new hose and they get to know you.

I would get a new one. They must have made 1 fit to get it out of the factory.

Coolant reservoir is intended to accept overflow from the radiator as the coolant expands as it heats up and then draw the coolant back in as the engine cools. You should see a rise in coolant level when Fit is fully warmed up compared to fully cooled down. If thats not happening replace the hose or otherwise repair the leak. If you're judging coolant amount by whats in the reservoir thats not an indication; check under the rad cap when engine is fuklly cooled - not hot unless you like to hurt yourself. good luck.

mahout - I'm with you up to checking levels.

Coolant should be checked by observing the level in the coolant reservoir. If at or below the MIN mark add coolant to the reservoir, not the radiator. My rule of thumb has always been that it should be a bit above 1/2 way with engine cold, however, the Fit's reservoir seems to be sized to allow filling to the MAX mark to allow expansion when hot.

Unless the reservoir has run completely dry - it is the indicator of coolant level in the system. As manhout explains the over flow tube from the cap to the reservoir is a two way siphon connection direct to the radiator. You will see the level change in relation to engine temp. Opening the rad cap means there will be a break in the siphon - not big deal on the Fit as long as the level in the reservoir is correct - one drive cycle will purge the line and get it all working as deigned.

With everything adding up the radiator if full as long as there's coolant above the MIN mark in the reservoir. If you see that level constantly going down there's a good chance there's a leak somewhere.

+1 just keep an eye on the coolant level at the reseve. no need to worry unless it keeps draining.

The coolant reservoir level is fine... I check that along with the
oil about once/week.

No rush... but I think I will drop by the dealer sometime with this
little issue and see what they say... perhaps Friday since I am off.
