Question How do I change the alarm settings?

I have a 2011 Fit Sport. The problem I have is that when I park at work (in a gated parking garage right next to my building), larger, noisier cars set off my alarm. It's really annoying. How can I change the settings of the alarm so that if I lock it from the driver's side button it doesn't alarm, but still maintain the alarm if locked with the key??

I'm worried that someone is going to get more annoyed with the alarm than me and key my car... or worse.

Help!

Given the normal security system doesn't have a shock sensor.... You should check the instructions for your aftermarket one.

Does anyone pay attention to car alarms, other than to think its accidental.

as far as I know, it's stock. I didn't add anything to my car, I've only had it since February...

anyway, I don't want to change the sensitivity; I just want to change how it alarms - set by the key is good. I want to be able to lock my car from the driver's side lock and it NOT alarm itself. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Are you sure you didn't get a "KARR" alarm from the dealer!

Most obvious would be a sticker on your windows indicating it.

Another place to check would be your purchase receipt for the car. Would be listed there, if you have it.

For the sake of getting my question answered, pretend I have one. How the hell do I keep it from going off every time a noisy or heavy vehicle drives by?

Better yet, if I do indeed have a KARR alarm, how the hell do I remove it?

You need to find the "brain" of the alarm, usually a little black box with little wires going into it. They tend to hide them somewhere under the drivers side dash. If its not there look under the passenger side. Once you find it you may see a little inset knob for a small screw driver to fit in, with this knob you can change the sensitivity. If you want to completely remove it it could be a little more difficult if it is tied in with the factory keyless. If not its just a matter of unplugging the wires from the "brain". If it is tied in then certain features may not work once removed.

If you can't figure out if you have an aftermarket alarm or not, please don't touch anything else. Take it to a knowledgeable person and have it properly disconnected/removed/adjusted... Whatever floats your boat.

Issue resolved guys: found a KARR owners manual off of the prius forums. That's right, not only are their cars pretentious hybrids but their forum respondees are far more helpful.

Did you read my response? I believe it sufficed at least a little...afterall it is a "little black box with a knob for a small screwdriver with wires coming out of it". Sorry it didn't help though.

yes, after I found the prius forum. Your response was by far the most helpful; at least I know what I'll be looking for tomorrow. My last post was more directed toward the comment of "don't mess with anything, have someone else look at it." That just pisses me off. It's my damn car, if I want to tinker with it, I will do as I damn well please. Just sayin'.

Can't argue with sound advice - you're sounding like a pretentious prius owner.... perhaps you came to the wrong forum.
