Unhappy Alarm issue

I just got my 09 Fit about 2 months ago. Within those 2 months the alarm has gone off atleast 50 times. Only once in the middle of the night and not sure what caused that.

Things that set it off:

1) Unlocking it with a key (wth?!)
2) Sitting in it for too long with the ignition off and opening the door
3) Opening the car door from the outside when it's unlocked (sometimes)
4) Strong winds...(flatulence)
5) Looking at it
6) Obama

It also beeps for everything. Unlock with remote: Beeps 2x (why does it beep?) Not everyone needs to know that I'm getting in my car at 5am do they?

At this point I hate the alarm and I'm sure my neighbors do too. What wire do I rip to get rid of it?

I'm not sure if the alarm is original or an aftermarket. I have the key remote that shuts it off and a little blinking light to the left of the steering wheel on the dash. Hope this helps.

Thanks in advance, Sharon

I think you have an aftermarket alarm system.

From the factory, the car makes no sound when you press unlock.
A flashing red light inside the gauge cluster is the one for the alarm. I think there's another flashing red light on the stereo, but other than those 2, there should be no lights.

You can try looking for the brain of the aftermarket alarm under your steering column. Then unplug it, that may stop your issue. Or find the aftermarket siren in your engine bay and cut that out.

Thank you for your reply. So I guess locating a fuse won't help?

Sounds like you don't unlock your car enough with your alarm button. These are all standard settings from the factory. Look at your car manual. 4-6 doesn't appear to be valid complaints.

Here are some cut and paste:

Security System Alarm*
The security system alarm activates when the doors, tailgate, or hood are opened
without the key, or remote transmitter.
■ When the security system alarm activates
The horn sounds intermittently and all of the exterior lights flash.
■ To deactivate the security system alarm
Unlock the vehicle using the key, or remote
transmitter. The system, along with the
horn and flashing lights, is deactivated.
■ Setting the security system alarm
The security system alarm automatically sets when the following conditions have
been met:
• The ignition switch is in LOCK (0, and the key has been removed from the
ignition switch.
• The hood is closed.
• All doors and the tailgate are locked with the key or the remote transmitter.
■ When the security system alarm sets
The security system indicator in the instrument panel blinks. When the blinking
interval changes after about 15 seconds, the security system is set.
■ To cancel the security system alarm
The security system is canceled when the vehicle is unlocked using the key or remote
transmitter. The security system indicator goes off at the same time.

Do not set the security system alarm when someone
is in the vehicle or a window is open. The system can
accidentally activate when:
• Unlocking the door with the lock tab or the master
door lock switch.
If the battery goes dead after you have set the
security system alarm, the security alarm may go off
once the battery is recharged or replaced.
If this occurs, deactivate the security system alarm by
unlocking a door using the key or remote transmitter.

If indeed you have an aftermarket system, it may not have its own fuse. Removing the brain, or siren would be the better choice.

Excellent. Thank you for the information.

I may end up taking it directly to Honda and seeing what they think. Yesterday I took it to get the tires changed...it beeped the entire time that it took for them to change 2 tires. Aggravating.

Thanks again,
Sharon

Instead of going right to the dealership, you might want to consider an independent car audio & security shop. Dealership will likely charge you for any time they spend looking at your car. The independent shop might take 5 mins to assess your car for free.
