lol, man, sure you weren't under oath to tell the whole truth, even though clearly your intent was to mislead (again for no substantal purpose); if it clears your consience that you technically didn't lie, time to get a job as a CEO, but I don't think you're winning anyone over as being a good person.

lap-you lied by saying that you didn't know why it wasn't cut. the answer being that you did and because you bought it that way. regardless, it sounds like a shady way of getting a key cut for free when some dealerships are kind enough to do it for free any ways

I wonder if any ole laptop with the Honda Diagnostic System can plug in to do the job...or do they need the little MVCI module too? I'll ask tomorrow if I get time.

It's really just fascinating, but there's possibly a way to make it happen just by getting the right software.

Most likely the bottom line is that a tech needs to get in the car, plug in, and reprogram for you using official honda software. I mean, it's not magic, but is it really worth saving a few bucks to jump through so many hoops? Or is it just the principle that the stealership is taking our money for something so piddly?

Post Replacement Key Blank $3.75

Either use this link:
Honda 4-Button Transponder Smart Key Casing - Worldwide Free Shipping - DX

or go to dx.com and search for Honda 4-Button Transponder Smart Key.

This is only the CASING, nothing more, but it is the cheapest price anywhere. I had a broken back-side casing so I just swapped parts, and viola good as new for $3.75 (all shipping is free).

Hope this helps for those folks that are holding their key together with scotch tape.

DX has alot of cool stuff, check it out!

That video is a great start - at least we can both unlock the doors. Ordered a non oem one for about $9 shipped from ebay.

I bought this one for $8.50 shipped (the price has gone up ten bucks since I purchased, no idea why). New Replacement Uncut Blade Remote Head Ignition Key Combo Mlbhlik 1T | eBay

I used the technique in the video above to easily program it for locking and unlocking.

Not sure if I will bother to get it cut and/or programmed to start the car.

What if I just took the little chip out of the working key fob and glued it to the steering column, then had this cheap key cut but not programmed. Would that work?

Sorry to necropost but thought it would be better than creating a new thread.

I have the 2009 base and just bought a Sport Keyfob and programmed it using the not so secret ignition code and I finally have keyless entry.

I am debating either hacksawing the metal key portion and using it as a remote and just using the 2 regular keys for the ignition or if I can somehow clone it.

I googled a bunch of threads and a few indicate you can clone such keys so the chip is identical to an existing programmed key. I'm not sure if that is possible or if the transponder is just locked to a certain ID.

The dealer will obviously want $100 to cut and program it and I am not going for that.

I suppose the last possibility is to take one of the normal keys, destroy it by cutting it open and doing a chip transplant into the new keyfob.

What do you think?

I believe my local honda dealer cut and programmed the chip in the remote I got off of ebay (and programmed to open the doors myself) for $30 or $35. Call around.
