Replacment Key

2008 base model with remote locks and alarm. It seems obvious as there would be no valet key but my dealer quotes me a key ordered by my vin for $50 or a "valet" key in stock for $35 plus $65 to cut and program. What would be the difference in the valet key which according to his description seems to be the same as the only key that came with the car. I have a separate remote that I bought on ebay which works with the locks. I lost one of two sets of keys. Thanks for any enlightment.

I have no clue. Do our keys have chips built into them for starting the car? If so, maybe the valet key just doesn't have the keyless entry buttons? Let me know if you find out. I actually want a key without the buttons because I want to take my key with me into the ocean when I go surfing and stuff.

Yes. I can't think of a single make these days without a transponder chip in the key. You could have the key duped on a plain blank without the chip but it would only open the door-if you tried to start it, it would crank but not start.
