Defeating the auto door lock feature

When I put my fit into drive it automatically locks the door.

Is there a way to defeat that feature?

Yes, there is. I changed mine when I got my car. Read the manual it lists the different ways you can configure it.

Thanks for the input but it doesn't work for me.

I checked the manual and followed the steps, but to no avail.

Maybe it is because I have a five speed and the instructions refer to automatic transmission?

Certain lock/unlock modes only apply to A/T (i.e. when shifting to/from Park) but all the other modes apply to MT Fits too.

Here's an excerpt from the manual (2009 page 85) that talks about MT (just so you don't feel left out).

vehicles.

The lock modes are as follows (MT just don't have the 2nd option):

ok now I'm confused...

Either way the lock/unlock mechanism may be disabled.

I had to write down the steps (and read them a couple times) to get it to work. The first time I tried, I missed the bit about rubbing my nose whilst standing on one leg (left).

As I recall, the secret is getting the key position right. IIRC, you want to turn the key to the run position without turning the car engine on, or something like that.
