I broke my shifter... darn!

So, I have an '09 honda fit, got it because the new one didn't come in manual (Honda is sure to lose a lot of cutomers over this in the long run, and future drivers will lose skills, but i digress)

Anyhow, it was used, but gently. But -- even though i only had it since last October, the darm rubber casing on the shift knob ripped asunder and began rotating freely around the hard core. I pulled it off and am using the hard plastic ball underneath, and will eventually get a metal shift knob. However, I wonder -- i've never had this happen, ever, on any other car, -- incldugn my 91 civic which has many miles -- nor has anyone i know! I know I tend to shift a lot -- i drive mostly backroads, with occaisional stretches thru horrribly crowded downtowns, so it's upshift, downshift, and dodge like a manhatten bike courier, but still -- I've never heard of a shift knob covering peeling off in yer hand. is this the only time this has happened?

After 5 years of use mine still looks like it did when new.... I have heard the 2nd generation shifter knobs tend to fall apart...

Blessing in disguise, the stock knob is horrid.

wait... what new one doesn't come in manual? Cause unless you're talking about EV or navigation trim... they still have manual transmission as an option.

You just have to find it (or order it).

As for the shift knob... I can feel mine detaching slightly.

I replaced the stock knob with a Blox weighted one and an extension between it and Revo short shifter...

Acura RSX knob, brushed aluminum. Looks stock cause it's a Honda part, great feel (except when hot or cold).

Just be sure to get 5 spd not 6 spd (they made both).

After 4 years of abuse, my shift knob also looks like a sloppy moose knuckle.

Yeah my new one is a manual. Orange Acura knob off ebay goes good with Orangeburst.

I am the only one that prefers the base knob to the sport knob? First thing I noticed when driving for the first time. Looks terrible and feels as bad as it looks.

Somebody lied to you.

Like everybody said, it seems the sport knobs fall apart easily.

Mine broke like that, too. Got a nice leather-wrapped weighted knob.

The knob on my 09 did the same thing after about 60,000 miles. I grabbed the leather wrapped Honda knob to replace it. It's too damn small and light but durable and has that nice leather feel.

Anybody think/know the Golf GTi mk1 knob would fit the Fit? It has the same shift locations and the golf ball shape is reminiscent of the Fit Sport OEM part.
