Remote start with a 5spd?
What do you mean by change?
I also have an '08 Fit, and I have a remote starter/alarm on mine (Viper 5901).
Just like most of the vehicles around, it can be done. It just depends on what brand/type of system you want to put in.

Guess I would be considered pre-noob as I haven't bought my Fit yet, but I was recently at a dealership here in the bluegrass and they said they would put a system in for me if I did buy one, a manual of course, but I would simply need to leave it out of gear in order to use it. So unless Lake Wobegon is really hilly and you don't trust your e brake, you should be ok.
Also, I want a sunroof, so I looked into that and you can do an aftermarket one. The dealer may be able to place one for you if you are under warrantee. I didn't know you could get aftermarket moon roofs until I took a very quick peek around. There were a ton of threads on various forums where folks had some interesting debate on their gut reaction to having their roofs chopped into, but apparently several companies make them and they are fitted all the time. A few guys even said their dealership did it or had someone do it and that way were able to get it financed. I think these guys really want to sell us their products...
I would absolutely require a remote start up there! Way too cold for human life.

When they install your system, they would teach you how to do the reservation mode for your manual car. If I recall correctly, after you park put it in neutral -> hand brake up -> tap brake pedal once -> reservation mode is set. After that routine, you turn the key off (Car will still be running) and exit your car. As soon as you close the door, the car will shut off and your vehicle is ready for the next remote start.
I guess that is how M/T remote starters are programmed just in case people forget that they left the vehicle in gear and remote start it (Search Youtube for videos of the mishaps). But on my system, I took that reservation mode out and made the system think that I have a A/T vehicle and start it anytime (I don't need to do reservation mode), mainly because my installer installed a bypass that won't let the car start if I left it in gear.
As for sunroofs, it's all personal preference. It can be done, yes, but aftermarket sunroofs/moonroofs will mess the structural integrity of your vehicle as well as add weight to it. I've had this thought before to do it to my Fit but didn't consider because I did not like to mess with the body structure of the Fit. I have windows to roll down anyway.

Thanks for the input! I have read a little bit of postage about aftermarket moonroofs and several references were made to the structural integrity issue. I will have to do a little more research to see if the hit there would be enough to trump my want for more sunlight... My want for sunlight is substantial but not if I'm gonna roll my ride or warp things and have windows fall out!
