NEW CAR- received notice from dealer about a 60-day inspection - necessary?
Hello Everyone,
I purchased a new 2013 Fit Sport late October, and just received a letter from the dealer to schedule a 60-day inspection. (would this be free?) I do have warranty covered 70k or 7 years - yeah a long time! Is this 60-day inspection really necessary or can I skip it and just come in when I need my first oil change? This is my very first brand new car so I do want to make sure I take care of it.
Thanks for your input.

Call the dealership and see if it's free. Since your vehicle is new, it's clearly still under warranty. If it is a free inspection as I would imagine it is, it's entirely up to you.
You really don't have anything but some time to lose.

They will probably change the oil, even though Honda tells you to have it done based on the maintenance minder. A new car shouldn't need any kind of 60 day checkup if they performed the initial dealer preparation service correctly.

There's absolutely no requirement from the factory for a 60 day inspection.
There are routine owner checks of fluid levels and tire pressures outlined in the owners manual but maintenance isn't required unless it's indicated either by a specific display, the maintenance minder or time in service.

no harm in the inspection. if its free, take advantage. They wont change the oil if its not time. Honda has very specific service guidelines. Only a poorly run dealership would ignore them
I think its probably a courtesy inspection.

The cost of the "free inspection" is the likelihood of selling you more service down the line. If you feel the need for an unnecessary 2 month inspection, then you're more likely to buy other service when you don't need it.
They are probably going to try and sell an unnecessary, possibly even harmful, early oil change, or nitrogen gas in the tires, or some other scam. Nothing is really "free". Waaaay back in the 1960's, VW paid for a dealer service at 300 miles to check, tighten and adjust all kinds of things, including a transmission oil change. Cars are built differently today.
Ha okay thanks for your input everyone!
I was thinking it was a gimmick .
In the letter they advised to schedule the 60 day inspection and they'd have a emergency toolkit to provide to me of some sort but I can buy that stuff on my own. My car's doing fine. I'll wait til until the maintenance minder or oil gets down to 15%.

Don't bet on them not wanting to change the oil. At 6600 miles I took my Fit to get a split armrest replaced. They also recommended changing my oil minder was at 30%. It was free for the first change.
When I reminded them of the Minder being at 30%, they said it didn't matter if it's changed early. I let them change it and they placed a sticker on the windshied for me to come in at 12,600 miles or 6 months. I'm not sure what oil was used, they use bulk oil.
I did my last change when the minder was at 15% and 14,870 miles.

It's totally up to the OP. But I wouldn't necessarily be too paranoid about a "free" inspection.
Infact many years ago, a new car inspection was a much more common courtesy.
Of course it's the dealership trying to get you use to the idea of using them for service, but it also might simply be what they say it is....a free inspection.
If you really don't want it? Or feel it unnecessary? Sure pass on it. But I wouldn't necessarily be paranoid about it.
Some people don't pay as close attention to their vehicles as probably many of us do....for those people an early inspection might actually be good. Even if it indentifies something as mundane as a slow leaking tire, or a fluid leak.
