Valves need adjusted at only 41k?
Well to continue this topic https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...-iat-code.html
Light came back finally and i decided to take the car in for warranty work i was hoping(well i was wrong)
I had the codes read last week and it had a random cylinder misfire along with 2 and 3.
Well i was informed Today that it was due to the valves needing adjusting at 41k and that was the issue. Dealer wants 330$ to do it, but being the do it yourselfer I guess im going to take care of it. I'm used to working on Domestic cars/truck and have done some extensive work there so the knowledge of working on cars and tools is there
Can anyone point me in the direction of a DIY of this or procedure?
Thanks!!!!

That's what i asked. He said since they need "adjusted" its not covered under my Honda care or Factory warranty. Now coming from Domestic motors and not needing this Crap i am tiny bit out of my realm.
To me if valves out of whack are causing a misfire i would HOPE Honda would see that being a COVERED item under the factory and or my Honda care warranty i got with buying the car used with low miles.

I got the dealer to adjust my '08 at around 55K under warranty... and I wasn't even throwing codes... I think it depends on your dealer, and how much you press them.
That being said, I know the GD can be done in 2-4 hours in a drive way by an experienced DIY'er with all the tools. If your careful you can even re use the intake mani gasket.
However, I do not know of anyone who has done it on a GE, I would imagine it's a similar process and would be covered in a shop manual or ALLDATA though...

Yea i just got off the Phone with Honda over this. They are starting a case on it and going to see what they can do, because honestly i think this should be covered since it is throwing a CEL and WAY before the recommend interval.

I was just about to look up your local rep. Especially since you paid $$$$ for the additional warranty and are throwing codes, they ought to handle this...

I wonder how they determined the valves need adjusting? Did they do a compression check? Valves would need to be way off to cause a misfire. Sounds like they may be guessing.
If they really are off that far and you keep driving the car you will need more than an adjustment. The Honda shop manual tells you how. There is another Honda forum that has a step by step valve adjustment for 1st generation cars I assume their would not be a big difference with the 2nd version.
I don't recall the forum name, I lost some computer data, but a search should work.

The only way needing valve adjustment would cause misfire is if they were so tight as to cause compression leakage. If its an exhaust valve it could burn, ironically a "covered" repair.
One difference you have to understand about Hondacare, its really insurance, not a warranty under the law. That usually means that only the specific parts and procedures listed in the policy are covered. A warranty is pretty much the opposite, every thing is covered, unless specifically excluded.

our fits do require manual valve adjustments at an unspecified interval based on how hard you drive it.
If you ever decide to do it yourself, and you have a GE8, invest on new cowl clips and get a feeler guage.
be careful putting it all back together and make sure you use a torque wrench to the specified setting. Last thing you need it to overtorque a valve head cover screw.
While you have all the crap taken off to get to the valve you could replace the sparks and check the coil plugs....

Well Honda called me and told me to call the dealer since i guess they were in talks and now it's being fixed free of charge.
The dealer Service manager was very apologetic over the phone. He is going to get my 78$ back also.
