cutting lowering springs
Just bought some progress springs thinking going cheaper was better because i was going to end up cutting them anyways but when i got them i noticed the coils went from large to small at both ends. Is there anyway to do this still??
Cutting springs is about the worst/stupidest/least safe thing you can do to your suspension. For the love of your own safety at least, DON'T DO IT!!!
What you said:
What I heard:
Well I loaded a single bullet into a six shooter and have fired several times and it hasn't shot that bullet out yet so I'm good.
*facepalm*
The car won't implode but you've put yourself and people on the road in danger of a potentially higher chance of a suspension component failure. I really don't care if you screw up a car, but potentially putting others at risk for being stupidly cheap is unforgivable.

Oh c'mon, it isn't that serious.
Not saying its the best method, but it can be done. OP could easily sell the ones he has on this forum and buy something lower.
OMG YOUR ON STOCK STRUTS TOO!? OMG OMG SUSPENSION GEOMETRY IS COMPROMISED

I wouldn't cut the fronts, but you could cut the rear:

I've bought both sets of Bthasht's springs.

If you cut, secure the spring to the perch with metal ties so it doesn't bounce out the seat when not captive. That's the major risk when running cut springs.
I've run some pretty cutty suspension setups in the past. Having said that, I wouldn't do it again.
If you're going to cut you might as well just cut your stock springs and sell the Progress, the whole point of lowering springs like them is to stay safe, spring captive while still lowering the car, it's not like you're getting a big bump in spring rate and you're running stock shocks anyway.

Actucally, heating the springs IS safer than cutting. But I will never attempt either, just save some $ & get the real deal.
