Recent fit owner...what do I need to know?

I recently purchased a used 2010 Fit Sport with 50k miles and was wondering what I need to know about this car (maintenance wise) to keep this baby running nicely for years? I ask this because my last car had all sorts of issues and come to find out...it needed special oil, special fluids, special this and special that. I want to avoid any commonly made mistakes with this car. Are there specific fluids I need to use when having it serviced or maintenance issues I should keep an eye out for? My fit didn't come with a manual but it was serviced at the dealer before I purchased it.

1) Get a manual if you can. Good info.

2) The Maintenance Minder (MM) is pretty good as far as maintenance schedules.

3) Take some time to read the DIY section on this forum. It'll give you an idea of DO's and DON'Ts. But like anything else, you'll just have to sift through what's gold and what's fool's gold for you.

Good luck! Enjoy your new ride!

This forum is a great starting point. Lots of knowledgeable folks and many great posts with plenty of information. Like Subie said, stick to the MM and complete your required service when it alerts you. I would also stick with Honda fluids (trans, brake, etc.). Enjoy your ride!

The major fluids that matter (beyond just using the right oil weight and brake fluid type) is that the transmission fluid should be Honda's fluid and the coolant fluid should either be honda's or designed for Hondas.

Arguably, you should go ahead and do a drain fill on the transmission since there's some reason to believe that Hondas interval is too long.

And- the owner's manual outranks the dealer's suggestions, since the owner's manual doesn't make any money from service.

You are right at the mileage where a couple of common problems may rear their ugly heads.

The number one most common is coilpacks going. If you get hesitation and similar to a misfire at cruise speeds check the coilpacks.

If you get stalling and rough running when the car is cold your valves need adjusting. BTW if they haven't been done yet with that much mileage it might be a good idea to get them done now.

What do you need to know...that the rear door (especially on the driver side) will leak rain water if the vapor seal pulls off the door frame. Do a search under my user name as how to fix it.

If you have not done so yet, check the battery and the wiring.

Honda skimped out on grounding wires in the engien bay. Go buy a negative battery terminal that accepts 2 4gauge wires, and go to an car audio shop and buy a few feet and redo the factory ground after crimping or soldering a 4 gauge end.

Your second string will run along radiator to bolt behind the headlight on the engine bracket. Keep the factory ground there, its short and goes to the AC or harness bracket a few inches up.

PM me for a picture

my 09's been around with me for 5yrs through our salty winters. there's really nothing specific the car needs. 5w20 oil is about the only thing different from my other cars.
