Coolant Temp Light

My friend has a 09' Fit Sport and says her coolant temp light keeps coming on every time she starts the car and stays on for a minute or two. I mostly work on domestic makes (mostly GM's) out of my house as a hobby. My first thought would be that the ECTS isn't working properly but I'm not that well versed with foreign makes. Is this a normal thing with the Fit or is there actually something going on and if so what troubleshooting steps could I do to figure it out so she won't have to take the car into a shop to get it fixed.

Normal, that just lets you know the car isn't warmed up yet.

She and you should read the owner's manual. The coolant temp light on the dash is blue indicating a cold engine. The coolant heats up quickly and the light turns off. All normal and nothing to worry about. Lots of other practical things can be learned by reading the manual.

I would have but she is out of town and doesn't really understand much about cars, so that why I asked. Thank you for the help though.

yah, it's odd to most folks that dont have Fits cause most cars usually have a water temp guage, not a light that appears to be an error light.

I think blue temp light means engine is under temperature, red indicates over temperature. idjit lights
