Coolant Indicator Light Issue

What is the experience with the 2008 Fit Sport on its coolant indicator light? Just picked my Fit up a couple of weeks ago and the indicator light (upper right blue) stays on on start-up for 30-45 seconds or so before shutting off. Did not notice it on this long during the first week. Are there problems with the coolant or indicator lights? Plan to have them look at it this Saturday. Thanks.

I don't think so mine has always done that and the light will stay on a little longer when it is cold out or if it is really hot the light isn't there.

Theres nothing wrong with your light. Don't waste your time looking into it, the Fit doesn't have a temp gauge, so we have a light to let us know when its up to temp.

its just letting you know your motor is not up to normal operating temp. yet, its completely normal, in the winter you will notice it takes FOR EVER to heat up... but its normal dont worry about it

It's all about reading the owners manual... it tells you in there that it's normal...

It's totally and completely normal. Mine does the same depending on outside temperature. The blue coolant light is just a friendly reminded to drive off gently until the engine is warm.

There is really no need to bother your service department with this.

Just as Sloto200 said you can find information on this (and many other features of you car) in the little book that came with it.

There's kind of a built in temperature sensor!

The engine will idle higher when it's cold, I think it's just around 1500rpm here. When it idles at about 1k, that's when the coolant light will go off.

Generally, when it's fully warmed up, it'll idle at about 750-800rpm unless you're using lights/AC etc which might push it up a bit.

Not really accurate but just something I noticed.

This past winter when it was no more than 8 out overnight, I would go 4 blocks with no warm up and it would turn off and I had heat. This is something I noticed right away, as my old Dakota with the V8 would take 3 - 4 miles to do the same thing. If I were you I would have your thermostat checked. It may be stuck open.

I had the same question. My coolant was low, got it filled but now the light is on and stays on for like 20 seconds or more then goes off. I'm wondering, in the handbook it says see a dealer, but also seeing mixed reviews online that it's normal and blah blah. Could this also mean there's a leak? Thanks so much.

Does it need to be reset some how. Really don't wanna go spend more $$ right now on this but will
absolutely if needed.
