Loss of value? I'll have to admit, I haven't heard of that.

No matter how well they repair it, an expert can spot new parts/resprays. In addition it will show up in carfax reports. This will lower the resale value of your car. As the injured party you have a right to compensation. This is built into the insurance code in many states (probably to reduce the amount of compensation). Be sure to ask. I don't know if there is a standard, but 10% of the cost of repairs doesn't seem unreasonable. Carfax will tell you it impacts the resale value by thousands, but I think that's an exaggeration.

Someone damaged my rear bumper in the parking lot. The repair was $600, paid on my uninsured motorists policy. After it was done State Farm mailed me a check (without asking) for $60. The accompanying letter explained the law/rule in GA, but this applies everywhere, it's just not automatic.

Here's a shylock site. I'm sure if you just ask for diminished value comp they'll cut a check.

It all depends if it's reported to carfax. And car fax isn't a required reporting system, it's a independent company that pulls info for different sources. However I wouldn't worry about carfax. If the car is fixed correctly and insurance company didn't total it out then your title will be fine. Good luck. Also you'll get back a Shiny Car!

I left a message with my adjuster and asked. I'll be relieved just to get the car back and this is the car I plan on keeping for as long as humanly possible, so it might not be all that big of an issue in the long run, but I'll see what she says. Its not something I'd sue over, but I at least asked. They've been really great about paying for all the chiropractor stuff, and that is no small bill, and the repairs to the car are $9K. I guess at this point, I'm counting my blessings.

Sorry for the delay, yes, I got my car back this past Wednesday, finally. Turned in the rental car and it looked brand new by the time my husband got finished with it, and my car runs like new. I've put about 200 miles on it since I got it back, so I feel confident saying that they did a great job on it. Auto Art was the name of the place, and they have a few locations around the Nashville area. Its so nice to have my own car back!!!

Before and after for my Fit or for the rental car? lol

The delay for me posting was due to food poisoning last week. When it rains, it pours.

Are you sure it was food poisoning? Your body may have been rejecting the rental.
