Anything I should check buying a used Fit Sport?
Hello all. Not new to car forums, but new to this one.
My girlfriend is looking for a new (used) car, and I've steered her toward a Fit based on her criteria (has to have adequate space, a way to hook up her iPhone for music, and go forward when she tells it to; she's not picky about cars, but I am). I found a decent deal on a 2010 Fit Sport with 40k miles, and I just have a couple questions for you current owners.
Thanks!

- How many miles are you guys getting out of the OEM tires?
- Is there anything I should look for in particular? Known issues, common things that go wrong, etc?
Thanks!

'10 had a recall dealing with the engine/cooling system so make sure its been dealt with. Definitely get a Carfax report plus spend the bucks to get it checked out by an reputable independent mechanic/shop in your area. The mileage is pretty good so it will give many more years of service.
If she wants new and is on a budget, check out remaining new 2013 Fits. Dealers have factory incentives to push them off their lots quickly (new model arriving starting end April). One guy posted $15,535 ++ for a new '13 Sport.
Good luck. Whatever she scores, post pics.
She will love the Fit's all-around flexibility and frugalness. You will adore modding the heck out of it!!!!!!

How far are you into the 3rd set? Are they new/newish?
This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to find here. Thanks, I will look into that. Was it a big issue or was it something that only affected an unlucky minority? Also, does anyone know if Honda does recall work/repairs out of warranty?
Will do. I'm hoping this one works out, as I drive her car sometimes.
I already have my own car to mod the crap out of (and I do! haha).

REcall affected that whole year. Go to any Honda dealer with the VIN and they should be able to tell you if the recall was dealt with. If not, they will do it for free whether you have warranty or not.
Is it a private sale or from a lot?

On the 3rd set since Sept. last year. 14" Michelin's bought on sale (now discontinued).

Do get a Carfax at the very least. 40K is pretty low so check the rest out by yourself if your into that.
Correction, tires was last Feb. It was the brakes I did last year.
Don't forget to post.
Welcome to FF.

GE8 Recall
My 2009 got the LMS recall, my wife's 2010 was built after the correction was made - so no recall.

All 2009s and some 2010s were subject to a "Lost Motion Spring" recall, involving some springs that could possibly break in the valvetrain. So, check the VIN with Honda on any Fit in these years to see if they were affected and if the recall has been performed.

My gf's '09 Fit Sport got 35,000 miles out of the original tires before one tire's sidewall failed.
All 4 had probably another ~5,000 miles of life left.
I do all the maintenance (and minor modifications) myself and no issues at all @ 42,000 miles and counting. I did take the car in for the LMS recall 2 years ago and was a smooth process.

Seems to be my bad luck but take it through a car wash to check for no leak around the back. Bought a 2010 Fit Sport and had a small leak that was coming in from somewhere. Later I found out it was from the antenna.

Weird, I think Mr. Regular from RegularCarReviews is having that issue with the Fit he just bought. I will definitely keep an eye out for leaks.

Check to make sure the AC works. The Fit has a pretty open grill and the condenser is right behind it, making it vulnerable to rock strikes. I had the lost motion spring recall done when I owned my '09. No problems getting that done at all. I think there was an MPG readout update along the way for the '09 as well. Before the update it showed that you were getting better gas mileage than you really were. That's a trip in to service for them to flash the update- no big deal. I eventually traded mine in to the dealer where I bought it for a 2012 Fit sport with navi. LOVE this car. Good luck on your used Fit quest!

Went to check out this Fit, everything seemed to be in order. Girlfriend decided she wants it, so we should be doing the transaction Friday or Saturday. $11.5k for a 2010 Fit Sport with 40,500 miles. Front bumper kinda needs a repaint, but other than that, looks good! Even has 60k miles/5 years left in the Honda Certified used car powertrain warranty that's transferrable from the current owner.
