Pure Speculation: The New Break-In
Pure Speculation: The New Break-In
When I bought my new '13 Fit, I was surprised to note the absence of any break-in procedure or warning, either in the form of a sticker on the tach or in the Owner's Manual. The first 1k mi. of driving the car left me with the impression that the car was not as torquey, dynamic and fun to drive as my '08 Fit. Granted, I was taking it pretty easy, observing my own break-in cautions, but still.
Here's the interesting part: I'm above 1k mi. on the odometer and the car seems to be opening up a good deal. I'm wondering if Honda programmed the ECU with performance limits that have now expired. In effect, the break-in has not been deleted, but simply built in to the ECU.
Possible? Or am I drinking too much coffee again?

My honda cbr600rr had a rev and mph limit until it had 150 miles on it. I wouldn't be surprised if the cars had the same thing but the only way to tell is running it on a dyno right off the factory floor to see if hp numbers are restricted with low miles.
Mine didn't really break in until I took it to a track day and beat the snot out of it (had about 30k miles on it at the time). It ran better and fuel economy has been up a bit since that day. (I keep track of every tank).
Sounds good.
On the other hand, it sounds like it could be an ECU reset thing happening rather than a break-in thing. Not much left to break in at 30k mi.
Possibly this could've been the equivalent of the italian tuneup which cleared out some deposits and/or the injectors
