You're thinking of refresh mode. While still available in the rest of the world, North American fits got bigger front seats for the second generation than the rest of the world. So, refresh mode does not work for us.

It's not really all that silly of a question. I'm sure a lot of former first generation owners have wondered the same thing (and I have seen the topic discussed here before).
