OK, I've been ignoring my package shelf lift cords dangling there forever and been meaning to get them hooked up to the lift struts....

but how to disconnect the top part of the strut to slip the cord loop part over it? Do you pop the socket off the ball stud by prying? Or do you unscrew the center Torx screw? Looks simple doesn't it

Neither—the cords don't attach to the lift struts at all. If you think about it, that would be inviting leaks, as the cords would have to go between the gasket and the hatch whenever you closed the hatch.

There are supposed to be a couple little clips that attach to the hatch, apparently. (This is the 2012-2013 instructions, but that part of the 2009-2011 ones looks identical):

Hmmm, thanks for that info, don't think I've seen those there before. Mine's a 2009, which I bought almost new from Carmax with 15K miles about 4 yrs. ago. Wonder why they weren't there from the factory, didn't appear as if they previous owner would have removed them? Weird.

What is the correct p/n for those?
