Thud sound coming from the rear when at a complete stop.

Hello, I have a 2013 Honda fit with 14,000 miles on it and I've noticed a rear noise when coming to a complete stop. It would sound like a thud. Is it just the sound of the struts in the rear? Could the struts be loose? Is it normal? There's no noise when I go over bumps and the spare tire is completely fastened. I don't have any thing else in the trunk. Noise only happens when I do complete stops. Thanks!

Could be a rear brake shoe grabbing. You are under wty so have Honda check it out.

Sounds improbable, but anytime my fuel tank is anywhere near full, I can hear a thud from the gas tank when I come to a stop. I can only hear it though, if my environment is very quiet. It's the fuel volume hitting the forward wall of the tank, I think. Doesn't happen when the tank is less full. I suspect there a baffles in the tank that come into play with the lower volumes.

Noise is coming from the rear. Gas tank is under the driver seat, right?

spare tyre not bolted down tight??? or jack not being held tight in the holder.
my jack was under my spare but not held tight and it would move around and make noise when i stopped hit a bump or took a turn fast.....
also the little pouch that holds the jack handle and tow ring can be sliding around....
GD...

Spare tire completely fastened. Doesn't sound like anything else rattling, just a low sounding thud.

determine if the thud sounds when speed is decresased by letting it coast OR when the brakes are used to decrease speed....and try hand brake application and brake pedal appication.....

as the body shifts foward due to decrease in speed using the brakes....the suspension lifts upward as the front wants to nose dive......so suspension parts may be where you need to start looking.....bushings on rear suspension...coil springs saddles...shock mounts....whatever is back there that would come into play......as for a brake shoe dragging...this would only be the issue if the return spring was weak or broken....even a loose or missing mount bolt for the wheel cylinder would hardly cause a thud.....since the shoulder of the W.C. fits into a cut out in the backing plate.

maybe even a broken exhaust hangar or mount could cause the thud.....these cars require a FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT so maybe an adjustment bolt for the alignment on either wheel assembly could be just loose enough to allow it to shift forward or reverse.

just throwing out some possibilites......hope you find the thud...

Thanks for the info! I thought it would just be an easy fix, but I'll take it to the dealer to find the issue as I'm under warranty.

I have the same sound coming from mine. I figured it was the brakes. It's been doing that since I bought it new last year.Let me know what you come up with. I always thought it was the gas tank or brakes because it only does it after abruptly stopping. Guess it can't be the tank...

I had the same problem...getting rid of the dead body helped a lot. And the smell is gone too.

Most likely the gas in the tank. It scared the crap out of me the first time I heard it. Thud sound. Don't know how it happens, as it doesn't happen to any other car I've owned. Usually it's a sloshing sound.

From the time I got the car it would get a thud in the back, sometimes several after stop. I asked the dealer and they said it was brakes distributing pressure. Doesn't hurt to have it checked out though. Mine does it every time if i stop going uphill, roll back an inch and stop again.

Update. Had the dealer check it out and did a ride along. I wasn't able to get it to thud when the tech was with me of course. He checked the suspension in the rear, and couldn't find anything that would make the noise. They said to just bring it back if it happens, which I will do.
