2013 Fit Sport Headlight Plastic Spots

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed blemishes on there headlight plastic lens. After 3 days of constant heat and sun my drivers headlight plastic casing has developed spots along the edge close to the hood. Pass fine. Car has 19000 miles. Tried wax to remove no good. Looks like heat has damaged the lens. Doesn't look good. Best way to describe it is when you have a black car and the clear coat starts to come off it has that white ridge. Just wanted to see if others have seen this problem will be taking to dealership hopefully for replacement or to get it documented because car is leased.

I have actually noticed this too. It looks like clear coat failure, but its plastic so I don't know what caused it.

I guess the best solution is to wet sand them down and polish them. I haven't tackled this myself but I plan to do it before it gets worse.

Using a good quality plastic polish or polishing compound helps greatly with reducing/eliminating these spots. It's oxidation of the plastic.

I will try some plastic polish and see if it helps. Leased car so not to concerned but don't want dealership charging me for this damage. I know plastic lenses on cars cloud up over time but this looks like if you had two pieces of plastic glued together and the glue in between started to dry and turned white. I religiously wax my car and that spot also gets waxed as well so it doesn't seem like its stained with anything.

So i did some research last night and what is happening is the uv coating is peeling off. The coating is applied during manufacturing.

Polishing compounds are good at removing the uv coating, however with no coating the lens will yellow within the year. Its like not having sunscreen on your bare skin.

The only real options are to replace the lenses, buy new headlights all together or get them restored and have a new uv coating applied to them.

I hope the dealership covers this under warranty.

So I went to the dealership and talked to the service employee. He was a little hesitant but he said they would cover it under the 3 year limited warranty.

Picked up my car with a brand new headlight. I may have had my "scam BS blockers" on max level so maybe I wasn't the most easy going customer but the guy did great customer service and didn't try to pass the blame onto negligence or an "act of mother nature"

So I plan on calling the dealership and giving him a good compliment to the boss tomorrow.
