Dirty Engine Air Filter: Normal ?
Hi Howard64:
Perhaps I have misled here. The scoop , or duct was fastened to the underside of the hood by the small 6 or 8mm clips. It is made from flexible rubber? the opening about the size of a Hersey Choclate bar (don't know why I thought of that) made several bends and dumped air downward toward brake cylinder/air nozzle area. The vehicle bought new, am the first owner.
When doing some repairs, noticed one or more of the retainer clips had come put, causing it to droop. I pulled it out and never could figure out how to reinstall. So it now not on the vehicle.
I can only surmise it to be a factory item as I drove it off the Dealership lot in San Antonio. It a base vehicle with no add ons.
Just looked at your picture!! That's it. The piece I poorly described.

The HONDA Genuine engine air filter is lightly oiled to catch dust , etc.. That's why it looks dirtier than most aftermarket . I change the O.E.M. out yearly in mid to late MAY .

Used a Bosch afrermarket filter and confirmed after 2500 miles no dust built-up. Thus, Honda OEM filter is definitely lightly oiled as you noted.
