Sudden MPG reduction

Sudden MPG reduction
I have an 09 fit that usually gets around 36 city and 38+ on the highway, I use a scanguage II and also hand calculate every fill up.
On the 350 mile trip home for Thanksgiving I only got 33 mpg, 90% hwy and 35psi all around ( normally i would get 40-44mpg on this trip depending on traffic and speed)
I changed the oil and air filter got the same 33mpg on the return trip doing my best to drive efficiently
Has anyone else noticed a drop like this?
i was wondering if it could be winter fuel maybe? (Its still in the 70s here so im not sure when the gas stations switch)
other than that I know i need to replace the coils since im at 95K and the valves are getting starting to have more chatter especially when cold, could these cause a sudden drop like I had?

I've run into this before simply with Headwinds. Drive for a few hours with a headwind and the economy drops like crazy. I have the same issue when I put the roof rack on the car with the Fairing.
What was the fuel tank's economy on the fill-up after? Could also be a numbers calculation as well - god knows I've done that before - next tank showed a massive swing the other way for me.
final option. you had a great thanksgiving and filled up on too much turkey - weight kills the fit.
For the Record, I only get 38+mpg on country roads in the fit. When I hit the highway, If I'm above 65-70mph, it drops to 35mpg. get up to 75-80 and I'm down to 32mpg.

Agree with statements that load and headwinds can make a big difference in MPG. In my experience, if the Fit is loaded down with people and stuff and there are moderate headwinds, MPG drops to 32-30 on the highway and around 26 around town.

Not sure if it was weather (cold) related but my spark plugs worked lose at ~26K and gas mileage really dropped.
Do you have a check engine light (CEL)? Do you smell any gasoline upon start up (sitting still)?
Maybe you are in the early stages of the problem.

Thanks for the advice everyone,
It seems like my mileage is doing better on the most recent tank of gas but I wont know for sure till I recalculate at fillup.
Also theres no CEL or smell but ill make sure to check the sparkplug torque when I replace the coils soon.

Kind of interested why you would replace the coils at $100+ each plus $ labor. Depending on how the dealer does it you could be looking at $600-$700 bill. If you don't have a CEL why change coils?
Think about it this way: Spend $600 to get another 5 mpg with gasoline at $2.50 / gal. $2.50 / 33 mpg = $0.076 / mile for gasoline. $2.50 / 38 mpg = $0.066 / mile for gasoline. The diff is $0.01 / mile. You'll have to drive 60,000 miles to break even (simple payback) after spending $600 to save $0.01 / mile (if there is something that needs fixed and you get the additional 5 mpg). That's 5 yrs if you drive 12,000 miles / yr. Car might be long gone by then.
How many miles are on the car? Maybe new plugs are in order. Follow the normal maintenance schedule.
What does your tailpipe look like: clean or black & sooty?
