2009 Power Steering Failure

The Electric Power Steering does not work, the warning light works but the reader shows no codes. I have read about the First generation warranty and the local dealer said ' no codes no service '. Mechanics haven't seen the problem and don't want to touch it .Any suggestions?

I want to change the control module for one from a wreck. I have the fuse box loose but can't get it out of the dash. I have the dash dissassembled but there must be some hidden fasteners I can't find. I can find info on radios and earlier dashes but not what I need.

If I ever get to the control module and it doesn't help, I can get a used rack for $200. Not a fun job on my back in the gravel but Honda charges $1500 - 2000.

My neighbour says sell it for $1000 and buy something that works.

Thanks:
John

It looks like noone has had this problem, So...does the Haynes manual have good instructions for removing the complete dash, fuse box and EPS control module ? Are there good instructions for replacing the steering rack.

I know that Haynes covers some stuff better than others .

but the reader shows no codes.
You can't get EPS codes with an OBD2 code reader. You'd need a much higher level scanner than that.
A paid diagnosis to get real fault codes and diag at the Honda dealership might be cheaper than tossing expensive random parts at the car.

IDK if you can get flash codes by jumping the SCS terminals, that might be worth a try but flash codes are not officially supported in troubleshooting info.

FWIW the rack is a plain manual steering rack, no electronics.

The EPS motor and sensors are built into the steering column and the whole column will come out without pulling the dash.

EPS control unit removal should only require taking out the fuse box first, not the entire dash. One bolt hole in the EPS CU is slotted (loosen bolt but do not remove) so check the new unit for this before removing the old one.

Do you have a loose battery? Check that out too.

I upgraded to a larger 51R battery and a weak connection can contribute to this issue.

Thanks for the replies. I bought a 2007 for $2800. It handles better than the 2009 and is more powerful. Sold the 2009 for parts and broke pretty close to even because I didn't have to buy any parts.
