Cracked frame--Anyone else seen this??

Hi, newbie here. I was filling my tires yesterday and found cracks in the frame, looks very serious. Is this a common/known issue? Looked around here and couldn't find any other mention of these types of cracks.

I have a 2010 Base Fit, just passed 130,000 miles, of course the warranty just expired at 120,000.

Any advice?? Worried my car is now totaled...

Looks like you hit something based on the scrapes and cracks above the other crack.

Is this under rear bumper cover? If so maybe backed into something and damaged without hurting outside of cover. Does not appear to be in suspension so not to worry.

A pic or two from further away would help us locate exactly where this is.

I think im about to make your day...
Take another look, it looks like tar to me from the road. Find a strong solvent and try to wipe it off.

It's in front of the rear wheel. There's a piece of plastic called the "strake" and it's only installed at the bottom in front of the rear wheel.

The bolt next to the strake is the bolt that holds the rear torsion bar.

As for the "crack"... it could be tar like flashesbuck said, it could be a crack in the frame, but then again, there's a "protective" coating on the metal, so the crack could just be the coating itself too. Would need someone a bit more professional to get an actual hands on look... not just random forum people looking at a picture.

Hard to tell in a picture, but my guess is that it's the coating that is cracking.

If it were cracked frame, wouldn't there be rust?

As you can see my 2011 Sport driver's side and the leading edge of the rear wheel well has a lot of similarities with that "swoosh" of sealant in the same area as crabs'. I have to assume that crabs knows the difference between road tar slung up on to the wheel well versus a crack in the metal but have to agree with other posters that some look "tar like".

If in fact it is dented in and cracked it may have happened from a side impact. It wouldn't happen backing into anything. I'd start looking around for other deformities under the car. Maybe it had been repaired. Check the 4-wheel alignment too (is that tire wearing more than the others?).

Most modern cars are built on a unibody with subframes. That doesn't appear to be a subframe, so I would say that you don't have a crack frame.
