Bad Day

I had. a CEL P0302 pop up on my Fit Sport last night. The dealership was awesome. They got me in first thing this morning. Here is where it gets bad. The 2nd coil melted. I figured while it’s torn apart they should just swap out all the coils and plugs. I also had them adjust the valves since I bought it used with 83000 miles and they most likely were never done. The dealership also recommended swapping out the coolant. I was going to have it done soon so go ahead. They also did my passenger air bag recall. The Fit might be finished today and be good as new. My Service Advisor said it’s going to be around $2000. It’s a great little car . I hope it last for another 83000 miles.

Why is this a Bad Day? Sounds more like a Good Day since the dealer fixed these issues.

Sounds reasonable ($) for the amount of things that were addressed.

how much to change coils and plugs. parts are not that expensive.

The parts were around $900.00. The coils were $165 each and the plugs $30 each. Everything is OEM.

Coil #2 failed because the plug probably came loose and exhaust heat melted the coil.

This seems to be a common failure on these cars.

i suppose you could look at it like $0.02 per mile in the 83000 miles you drove the car.. not a big deal? cant buy a new car for $2k..

hope you get another 83k miles on ur GE.

Self diagnostic abilities of modern cars are actually pretty amazing.
But it's too bad the code and warning didn't appear BEFORE your coil was melted.

I'm simultaneously impressed by today's cars abilities to warn and self diagnosis, while also being disappointed. Sometimes it seems like the whole "warning system" in a vehicle only acts like the appearance of Ravens or "scary music" in a horror movie. That is by the time you see it? The scary thing is either here, or coming....it's too late.

Sensors in cars are just gonna get better. We have warnings for fluid health and tire pressure before bad things happens. Next we'll see loose or worn out wires, plugs, bolts and other parts sensor to avoid damage. For now we just have to check it ourselves every year.
Self healing materials are also used in some vehicles already, it wont be long before we see it being used in normal cars.
Maybe in our lifetime or oir children's generation lol

Thumbs up Honda Dealer Work.

I go to my local Honda Dealer for all maintenance and work. I'd rather pay more to get the work done right the first time than going to a neighborhood mechanic that will mess up my Fit.

I agree. I always use my Honda and BMW dealerships for my Fit and M235ix. It cost a bit more but its nice to know its OEM parts.
