Is it Time For an Oil Change or Not?
If you change your oil before 15% shows and then reset your MM what effect does it have on the pending maintenance codes? Or whether you change at 15% or 50% it assumes you performed those services and doesn't repeat the codes until next interval?
If you think the Honda MM stretches oil change intervals you should research some other newer vehicles. I'm currently researching a heavy duty truck for work and hauling and oil changes are specified at 15,000 miles.

These are recommended oil change intervals for recent and presently owned cars, all are in miles:
1989 Toyota Camry 10,000
2001 Nissan Xterra 7,500
2002 Subaru Forester 7,500
2008 Mazda 3 7,500
I get about 7,500 - 8,000 before my MM shows 15%. that's in line with these.
About every 11 - 12k miles here with mostly highway miles. That's once the maintenance minder gets around 5 - 10%.
My last car was a 2002 Honda Civic which got its oil changed every 10,000 miles with full synthetic oil. When I sold it with 207,000 miles on the odometer it still ran like brand new.

My oil % reminder on the dash no longer drops below 60% so I have to keep record of when I last changed it. I usually get it changed at the dealer, and they tell me if 12 months is coming up or not and I usually just decide then.
Seeing the other replies on this thread though, I'm thinking about starting to use synthetic. Some say it is overkill and more expensive, but lasts longer.
If I only have to change my oil once a year though, it might be worth it.

I change my oil when it shows 10% or so.
3k mile oil changes are marketing hype to get your money. With reasonable maintenance, good driving, and using decent quality gasoline (stay away from tiny gas stations unless you know they are fine) you can go over 7k miles EASILY
I have never changed any vehicles oil in 3k miles unless it was for a very specific reason, like the car was a drag-only car, and the carb runs stupid rich unless its getting beaten up at the track
