Decent, but I also wonder how long the piece will stand up to constant abuse before a crack in the welds rears its ugly face. Sorry I don't want to take away from what the shop has done, but I still much prefer the Alex mounts I have, all 3 were done up...

Still it's good that they have come up with something and you are happy with the feeling of the car. I will definitely second what you say about the feel, I absolutely love how mine feels.

555 are you saying that plastic is somehow stronger than welds? It's not like it's glued, welds if properly done can be stronger than the metal itself

Im pretty sure he's just stating that he feels more comfortable with one solid piece rather than a 2 piece welded mount. Ideally the best thing here would be a forged mount completely solid but that costs money. although the next best i think would be some stock aluminum that is cnc'd to spec. Can the shop manage this? or do they not have the tools?

The only advantage that I would think that the plastic mounts have is that the material itself has the ability to absorb and dissipate higher frequency vibration... That could be advantageous at higher RPM.

I ordered them, got a refund after calling for "not in stock", then did the window weld trick to my stock ones.

did you just cut a piece of steel, drill a hole for the center and weld it all together solid? (sorry if i missed a thread about it)

also 555, do you know how those were made? i was going to just fill my stock rear mount on my CRX with silicone so it was solid - or should i use something else? i don't want a solid mount just one that gives me a little more feed back and doesn't make the mirror shake "too much"

OP - does your mirror shake like crazy? and is it still in good shape after a weekend of driving - oh and what kind of driving do you do??

jdm junkie- hey man you have my number... were waiting on a few reviews and getting the interest up, have another design to try

vtechcit- ill be honest i drive like an asshole, pot holes, hard cornering, abuse all around. this will hold up ive used there mounts before, on my srt which has almost the same top mount and i ran it at 400+ hp all day and abuse and they worked awesome! ohh and no my mirror doesnt shake at all, the side mounts still take alot of the vibration off the motor, only thing that makes my mirror shake is my 12'. tonight were doing the coilover install and the chassis brace install so i will take a look at the mount. no creaking, shaking, or rattle!

goduhlam- the torque wont be an issue- soon we will be testing a mid hp fit

555sexydrive- hey man these will all be warrenteed if the weld brake, which im confident they wont.. i like the mounts you have, but the stock pieces are not an option for me, i hate the fact they used plastic, and the new ones are lighter than the old ones too looks like prothane inserts? does yours rattle? feel more motor through the chassis?

fittacular- thank you! awesome statement

java fit- costs alot of money and the cnc option if a choice but very expensive too

tc- i agree but the vibration at least for me i dont worry to much about, i enjoy it but thats why were going to develop another mount to help disapate the vibration

who made them for you? what did they use/what was the process?

i agree they look like inserts but no one makes mm inserts for the fit...

Yes I definitely feel the motor through the chassis, something I really like as well. It's not ridiculous in any way, but then again what I consider just fine someone else might consider completely unable to drive.

Mine were made by Alex Motorsports, they just get stock mounts and fill them in, I'm not sure what material they are actually using and definitely not just an insert. I went this route, because I also had them in my old 5R Teggy as even the Mugen mounts were not up to par and still allowed too much movement for my liking and also they only included 3 of 4 mounts and my rear mount was shot when I replaced, unknowing to me.

About the plastic, the plastic is quite STRONG (took a mallet to it) and as mentioned is a solid piece. I think people are not really realizing the strength of the plastic, it's not like a damn toy made at the zoo of some animal (do they even have those anymore?). The properties of the plastic used are shown here. It's not going to break under its intended purpose and is fairly light and with it shaped the way it is, it actually resides inside a little metal cavity, so the mount is not just being held by the single bolt, but uses that bolt and the metal casing as part of the mount itself. And no I was not suggesting that welds are weak or the shop does shady work, just that I will always prefer a solid piece over 2 pieces made into 1. Just my preference.

Yep..

Did this to my Rear lower mount on the Fit and it mad all of the difference in the world... 3M window weld is your friend for Sh!tty stock engine mounts..

Takes about a day and a hlf to dry though

I just keep thinking back 35 years ago when I put solid aluminum transaxle mounts on an air cooled VW. The thing had a wild long duration high lift cam, fly cut dual port heads, big bore 88mm cylinders, very shaved flywheel and about every else that cold be done to one of them at the time... You could see the whole car resonating from 30 feet away when it was idling but it felt great once it was moving. That was an evil little bitch of a car

Unlike Hondas the air cooled VWs didn't last long between overhauls. I used the tow bar a lot to get it back home after spinning rod bearings and always had a spare engine or two stashed to throw in it while doing up another one. British motorcycles were the same way. It was just a street car.
