Going from Stock Sport Wheels to Wider Wheels

I know a lot of you guys have experience with this and am just curious, would going from the stock sport 16x6 wheels to a 16x7 or 17x7 aftermarket wheel with 205 width tires greatly decrease the rolling over feeling that I get with 205/50/R16 tires on the stock narrow rims? Maybe it's just the tires I'm running (Kumho PA31 205/50/R16), but the "driving on a water bed" feeling when doing quick directional changes is starting to annoy me. I also feel that the car would be much more stable and less affected by wind on the interstate if this was improved. Thoughts?

Thanks guys,
Dustin

Anybody?. In the last few days I have tried airing my tires up to 42 psi. It definitely helps the rolling off the rims feeling, but at the expense of ride quality.

I know exactly what you are talking about.I ditched the stock Dunnies after just a couple thousand miles of owning my 12 Sport.

I went with the Kumho 4X in 205/50 and they would roll over when pushed in the corners.I could see the wear at the outer edges of the tires.

I think a 16x7 is ideal for the 205 but of course this set up can get a little heavy.
I got just over 40K out of the 205 Kumho tires and I just went back to my stock 185/55 Dunlops.I think I will go with the Hankook V2 in a 185/55 when the Dunlops wear out.

I've decided to stick with the stock sport wheels and I see more choices coming down the line in the odd 185/55/16 size.

I just put these on. 16 x 7 General Exclaims UHP 205 50 16 . The offset is only 40 so I do get an odd rub on severe bumps. I am on Swifts as well. A nice solid feel.

Looks good and I love my Swifts too.I would like to get a nice set of wheels but the roads are so bad in my area that I just do not want to do it.

I would be so pissed if I bent a expensive new rim hitting a pot hole.I like your set up and those wheels look good on your TW Fit.

Thanks for posting up pics, I am definitely going to upgrade to 205's for my next set of tires.

I am on 195-50's but want more of a meaty look for my SSR's

I just ran a comparison vs my current setup and was given the following:

Tire size calculator

Tire Size Comparison

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
195/50-16 3.8in 11.8in 23.7in 74.4in 852 0.0%
205/50-16 4.0in 12.0in 24.1in 75.6in 838 1.7%

Slightly larger sidewall and slightly larger overall size but better selection of tires from what I am seeing on Tire Rack

I like your Sport wheels better than the version that is available for the 09-11, if you like them then keep them!
