Oil change cost for my 2018 Honda Fit EXL

Oil change cost for my 2018 Honda Fit EXL

Its always $ 50 plus for my Fit to have an oil change with synthetic at all locations near me for an oil change north of Dallas

I would call the dealer and ask service for a discount. I've been able to get Bernardi to $39.95 but the environmental and COVID san charges are excessive. I've now resorted to changing my 2019 LX oil myself (like I do for my other car/motorcycles). I document it on Honda owners website and keep my receipts for Warranty issues.

$50 at a dealer for full synthetic is not too horrible. Considering 5 qt jug of Mobile 1 is around $25 (I know it only uses 3.5qt) at Walmart and an OEM filter/washer will be about $7 (or more). You are only looking at paying around $18 for their labor. Personally, I change the oil myself on all my vehicles simply because I only get oil when there is a rebate available and buy the filters from online stores for a little discount. Plus, the closest Honda/Acura dealer is about 45 minutes away so I can be done by the time I get up there. I would check other local dealer websites for discount coupons. Most of them have coupons for service and have no problems taking a competitors coupons too.

I agree - $18 for labor isn't bad. But changing your own oil has other intrinsic benefits (that the entry labor used at the dealer won't catch):
  • examining overall car health (leaks, fluid levels, body work, etc.)
  • ensuring the lower engine "guard" is still intact or needs fasteners/maintenance
  • quality of the oil (some dealers use semi-synt or (frankly) may be using conventional)
My costs for an oil change - which are materials only - are: $25.15 / OCI (I buy Honda oil filters in 5ct bulk).

Even at $50 an oil change isn’t too bad of a deal. Most of the time the oil change is a loss for the dealership after they pay the tech but the goal is to sell other services and repairs.

I do them myself with service pro oil that I get in bulk (I have two fits that will probably do 50000 combined miles this year). It costs me about $17 ($11 for oil $6 for a Honda filter)

Mazda just offered $29.99 oil changes in Boston (email sent) for any car up to 5 qts of conventional and a filter change. Shop charges extra (I bet $10). $39's a great deal when you've had 22" of snow lately.

I get free oil changes as long as I have the car since I bought the Fit at Priority.
