Welp, guess it's new tire(s) time. I bought my '18 Fit Certified Pre-Owned but I have my doubts it'll get covered or pro-rated under warranty (I'm checking with the dealer tomorrow). Likely will need to get a new pair at least, although I'm already 25k in on these OEM tires. Tempting to upgrade all four and get some General Altimax RT43s or something... A short trip to Allentown and back....damn Pennsylvanian roads!
I remember reading the written Firestone warranty on my tires when I bought my car. It was hilarious. Essentially the manufacturer accepted no responsibility for anything. Even tread separation was assumed to be the customer's fault and was not covered. I guess I wasn't surprised. Honda was getting the tires to put on its cars at dirt cheap prices. The manufacturer had no financial margin to cover any problems and therefore had no choice but not to acknowledge or take responsibility for any problems. Good luck!
That tire shouldn't be cracking like that - it appears the same as a 15 yo tire (dry rot). I wonder if they had a small portion of the compound that wasn't mixed correctly that results in a failure location.
Yeah unfortunately (but unsurprisingly) Honda didn't give me any warranty or pro-rate for it. Just got the back two replaced with some whatever Firestone All Seasons (wanted to keep the front and didn't wanna put two different tread styles on at the same time). Plan to get a full new set of Altimax R43s or something better once these all wear out.
I don't think I got 25,000 miles out of the OEM Firestone tires on my '15 Fit. Worst tires EVER! If those tires are indicative of Firestone quality, I wouldn't run Firestones on a coaster wagon.
Yeah I've heard a lot of backlash against them. I've personally had no trouble with them (other than the aforementioned bulge), they're a little loud and will spin if you floor it on gravel or wet, but besides that they've been about average for me. Front's still have plenty of tread left so I didn't feel right getting rid of them just yet. I live in a salt-belt state, so I'm pretty sure a pothole was the culprit of the tire bulge.
@Iggy95: You're a smart man. First, you noticed the bulge. Second, you're going to replace the tire. Third, you're going to buy two, if not four, new tires.
I've been eyeballing these. They're brand new, so there aren't any good reviews out for them yet, but other tires from the same company are pretty good. The concept of good winter traction in all season tires seems a bit too good to be true, but time will tell. Of the other "all weather" tires out there, only these exist in the stock 185/55R16 of the Fit. My existing tires will get me through the fall, so I'm hoping these are well reviewed come time for me to consider winter tires again.
@CajunLanMan , we're running the VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 5 XL tires (earlier version of what you're looking at) on our 3rd gen and they've been great, a big upgrade from the OEM Firestones. Wet weather and snow performance has been great. I'm sure dedicated snows would be even better, but for a tire to run year round in a place that gets all 4 seasons, these are great.
I try to be educated with tire reviews. But, you have to take some of the reviews with a grain of salt. However, I pay very little attention to tire warranty.particularly, the ones that offer proration. Even if the new set cost is prorated, I would not want to buy another set of the same tires. My OEM Firestones lasted 44,336 miles! How long should tires last? It depends on how you drive and how you maintain them. I replaced them with Discount Tires brand, made in China, Sentry. I am very happy with them after 28,000 miles. Quality is not directly related with cost.
