hello all new member here, just got a 2015 ex with 110k miles on it. figured id start doing all the maintenance and get it outta the way.
first and biggest job i want to tackle is the clutch. i did a search and didnt find a gk specific clutch diy. can anyone help me out with this?
also i have the dreaded vtc noise..... but i guess ill leave it be unless there is an actual fix.
anyway thanks for the help, its all appreciated.
ps, id like a clutch thats alot grabbier, im used to a 3 puck on my other car lol
I don't recall ever seeing a DIY clutch guide here, and not sure if there's been that many members talking about having it done at a shop either. The engine makes so little power it seems like the life ought to be pretty good, I bought my car used at something like 59k miles and am over 100k now, with no sign of the clutch wearing out.
Not sure how similar the 3rd gen is to the 1st, but take a look at this-
I've only driven two GKs, one was just a few miles on a test drive before I found the one I bought, but both were manual. The clutch felt the same on both. Very light, very gentle engagement, enough that I slipped it a lot in the first few weeks while getting used to the car. Yours is very likely fine and acting completely normal, and I wouldn't think about replacing mine unless it starts to slip on acceleration.
That being said, if you want to go with the aftermarket option to change the feel, I'd love to hear about the difference.

I feel like I over rev it alot? Maybe I'm not used to how light the peddle is and how far up the engagement is. Statting from from stop in first seems a bit difficult. And I've been driving manual for 12 years .if I put an aftermarket in I'll posy it up..

Hi.... Before going through the hassle of the clutch changing.... Are you having any problem with it.... because if there is a funny feeling.... It might be the MC... And my recommendation is to swap both... MC and SC..... Noting that I sugest you use the EM2 MC... That's the 2001 civic... Which comes WITHOUT the "pain in the @$$" clutch delay valve.....

Master Clutch cylinder and slave cylinder. The GK5 has a delay valve which makes the shift feel funky and inconsistent. You can't shift fast and slam it.You can eliminate all that by switching it to earlier civic em2 old style clutch cylinder which doesn't have a delay valve.

im going to do this mod first before i attempt the clutch, do i need both master and slave? i ordered the master and when i get it will swap it out.
just curious if i should order the slave as well. rock auto has an excedy one for 18$

Elkaku done the swap. You just need the 01-05 civic master cylinder. There's a thread here of the swap.
It's on to do list. Hope we can see pics and step by step. It does involve drilling the firewall 1/2 inch elkaku has mentioned this on his swap.
last thing i need to do is bleed it, but I'm pretty drunk now and don't want to drive to the store to get a piece of hose to bleed with until tomorrow. it took me a total of 4 hours to swap clutch masters, swap to new rotors and pads and change the oil.. clutch master took me about an hour and a half because I Parked so close to my other car it was hard to access the inside... also drunk by that point.
Tool list.
I used an excedy master form a 2004 civic 1.7L
12mm with extension for removal of master clutch
10mm for airbox removal
hose crimper clamp things to keep fluid from draining..Amazon 10$ for 3
1/2 step bit with extension and drill
8mm wrench to bleed.
10mm wrench to remove lower portion of hardline.
needle nose pliers for hose clamps and cotter pin on pedal link.
beer and patience.
Use a half inch step bit, drill from inside out. Use one of these hose clamps from the resivior to the cluctch master cylinder to keep it from draining all thr fluid. Connect the fluid hose back on and then put the hardline on with the u pin beofre putting new on back into the firewall. Make yourself a bleeder bottle, 5/16 tubing from home depot. Also i always use honda fluids. This bottle of dot 3 was 5$ from the dealer. Im sure its all the same but if youre gonna go through the worm might as well do it right the first time. Bleer bottle needs 1 hole large enough to fit tubing, and a small secondary hole to releash air pressure when bleeding. Its that easy. When bleeding open valve 1/4 turn and keep pessing the clutch pedal till you stop seeing air bubbles in the fluid into the bottle. Make sure to keep the fluid reservoir up top filled or else youre gonna get air back in your lines.

no worries. I love Hondas, usually stuff is pretty decent to work on. I plan to make more diy as I replace things. Sure beats the hell outta working on my skyline! If anyone needs more clarification on the cmc install. Let me know. I did have to bend the hardline but not to much but that was covered in a different thread. I just added what I did differently.
