Changing key fob battery renders fob totally inoperable
Changing key fob battery renders fob totally inoperable
Okay this has happened twice and I brought both fobs to the dealership to have them investigated, and they just made me replace them
But changing my battery renders my fob totally inoperable, and going back to the old battery doesn't fix it. The dealership couldn't remedy it so I'm turning to the real pros - has anyone experienced this?
I could bring it into the dealership for a batt swap but it's like $20. But they would do it and if it broke it'd be on them.

I've changed batteries in key fobs from quite a few vehicles without any issues.
Sounds like something you did broke yours. I don't recall my Fit key fobs being especially difficult to pop open, but it's not hard to imagine how being aggressive could cause damage.
There are many instructional Youtube videos available. Even though I've opened up a bunch of key fobs, I always watch a video or two to refresh my memory on how they're supposed to come apart.

New Key FOB.
FOBS can be bought (with the built in electronics) and cut (by providing them with a photo of your existing key pattern) for your car on AliExpress relatively cheaply but then you still have to get them programmed locally presumably by a locksmith who has the equipment and capability to do it.

What year Fit do you have?
My 2010 takes a much smaller battery. My Amazon order history suggests it's a CR1616, which matches this video.
Not sure how you would fit a 2032 in a 1616-sized hole, but doing so would likely cause some issues.

I've had a customer come in with an inop keyfob after changing their battery. Turned out when they shoved the battery in they bent the metal contacts to where it was no longer making contact with the battery. Adjusted the metal contacts and all was good.
