Rattler

1st Post. Semi-capable shade tree Mechanic ,Know enough to make me Dangerous, Lifetime car nut. 43,000 mile 2017 Fit Manual Trans. car was at or near operating temp. when test driven. Engine Rattle cold or not so cold start. Never does it at or near operating temp. Been told by Honda dealer VVT problem. Said fix is 4-$500. Also said noise may not go away, said it would not cause Mechanical issues or contaminate the oil. Hard to imagine that couple seconds of rattle would not lead to a failure. Need some Guidance.
Many Thanks!

They said that the "fix" is $400-500 but the noise may not go away, is that right? I don't know what the replacement would cost, but for a dealership that seems quite low of a price.

All 3rd gen Fit's have that major VVT issue. And it's for sure NOT a $500 fix. We had our VVT Actuator replaced by Honda for around $2,000. Then noise came back about 6 months later. Honda does not have a permanent fix so you will just have to deal with the noise like everyone else. But it won't cause engine damage. It's just noisy.

Pulled injector fuse, let sit overnight, push start button for 2ish seconds, NO noise. Did this 3 days in a row, noise gone. Proves to me it is a cold engine oil pressure problem to the subject parts, going to install a dash kill switch to turn engine over building pressure while not over supplying fuel, hit switch and off we go with no worries (we think). Looking for a 3 pole switch that will install in our dash blanks. If you know of a switch that will suffice please reply. Many Thanks

Not true. I don't have it, not the slightest hint of it. My car's a 2018 with 36K km (22K miles). Admittedly it's still early in it's life and it may yet show up. I change my oil frequently and I do mostly long highway driving so the engine doesn't get started that often so less wear and tear.
