I'm checking the PDF version of the owners manual for my 2019 manual sport and I can't find the time frame for the oil change. I know most manuals say at a certain milage and/or months but this manual just says until it shows up on the cluster. I've owned my fit for 6 months and I've put under 2k miles. 70% oil life.

What's up with that?

 

I find that the oil life monitor on Hondas usually lead to quite extended oil change intervals.

If you want maximum life out of your engine I recommend intervals of every 6 months or 5,000 miles.

In my opinion intervals of 10,000 miles or 1 year are usually quite too long.

Have you ever heard of the term planned obsolescence?
Honda doesn't necessarily want your engine to last a long life because they benefit financially when you purchase a new one.
this is why their oil life monitor system extends your oil change too far, in my opinion.

 

I agree. I do mine twice a year. However, I live up north in a harsh climate. If I lived in say California I might consider something like 1 year or 5000 miles whichever comes first.

 

We use an EV for local driving so my Fit does 4500-5500 miles per year, almost exclusively on long highway drives (e.g., 800 miles round trip next week for Thanksgiving with family). I use full synthetic oil and change once per year, which will happen after returning from Thanksgiving because I like having fresh oil before winter. I rotate my tires at the same time. My oil life monitor has never dropped below 70% between annual oil changes, so I'm not surprised that the original poster's oil life is at 70% after 6 months/2000 miles, assuming similar driving conditions to mine.

When I was a kid in the 1990s with a mechanic father, oil changes were 3 months/3000 miles. Our family vehicles always went 200,000+ miles. Both engine tolerances and oil technology have improved since then and recommended oil change intervals have grown. If you're using quality oil, check the dipstick regularly, and drive "gently" - highway, long trips, not revving to the moon at every shift - you should have no problem with annual oil changes or 5000-ish mile intervals. If your driving is stop-and-go, on dusty gravel roads or other harsh conditions, or you're always pretending that you're in a Fast and Furious movie, change more often.

 

When the maintenance minder light comes on or annually if it hasn't in that time period.

 

When the oil life percentage is 30% I change oil.
